Replacing the stock muffler tip

First post on any sort of forum whatsoever, be nice!!

I was given a muffler tip as a present recently and wanted to stick it on myself. It's the bolt on kind with the 3 screws all around. I'm not planning on replacing the exhaust (muffler or anything else), so I just wanted to take off the existing stock tip and put on this new one.
But, I looked at the existing tip and have no idea how to remove it.

Hoping that someone could help me out... Thanks!

Aww really?

Nope, doesn't fit over the stock tip. There goes that idea...

Thanks guys

I'm hoping anybody else may have some other ideas...

cut off the stock tip and weld the new one on, make sure it won't be sticking out from the bumper too far or it will look dumb..

I might be wrong, but if I cut off the stock tip at the base of where it is welded on, then stick on the new tip to the now shorten pipe, won't the tip then be sunken in deeper and be somewhat hidden under the bumper lip?

Guess I'll measure it out tomorrow...

Thanks!:)

Nothing! Just thought I'd make use of the newly acquired one... Plus, the original tip, after 2 years, is getting irreparably dirty... is that even a word?

because he just wants to change his tip. quit getting on to this guy. hell, there are times when i think my msp's tip is a bit too small. he got it for a gift and wants to utilize it. more power to him. the scene is about modding your car how you want it, not how others want you to.

course, then i look at tips at pepboys and realize there's nothing under 5" so i deal with it. :D

im not gettin on him just curious...he could sell the tip he got for a present and save up a few extra bucks for a muffler..

Just measured it out, and the new tip should fit on the shortened pipe no problem...

mp5Jeff, did you paint the stock grill silver on your car? or is it a metal mesh grill?

If you painted the stock grill, how'd you do it?

By the way, is it necessary to somehow remove the muffler before cutting off the stock tip? or can it be done just jacking up the car and going underneath?

I dunno...

acctualy i just painted it white...just take it off, clean it GOOD, prime it, paint it, clear coat it a few times and you are good to go!, and for the 2nd question, no, just cut it while the muffler is on, no need to take it off..you should be able to weld the new tip on also without removing the muffler
