Replacing the OEM Backup camera with a Aftermarket Camera

I have a 2008 CX-9 Grand Touring. I would like to replace the OEM backup camera with a aftermarket camera that has grid lines. The car has a bose systems without DVD entertainment. I would like to keep the OEM head unit and wiring. My thought is to remove the OEM camera and slice the OEM camera 's connector on to the replacement camera. Has anyone been able to do this?
