replace P5 tailight/brakelight

I can see why that little plastic nub is on there - it keeps the light housing in place should all 3 of the nuts come off. I managed to get the light off without braking the nub, just pulled straight out.

Wow, I don't feel like an idiot anymore. Seems like a lot of people have dropped one or a couple of the nuts down the side lmao. Good times.

(2thumbs)

I had to replace the rear brake light bulb on my P5 recently. The body shop that worked on it last (never mind why) had put some sticky stuff on all the nuts so when I backed them off they stuck to the socket. Good idea and I was glad it was on there.

So what your trying to say is.....before I take the nuts off.....I can just put my boogers on my nuts and then they wont fall into the whole? SHWEET!(nana)

It's been awhile since I touched the rear bulbs, but a deep 10mm socket is required right?

I used a reg 10mm with an extension.

Help!

I'm trying to change my drivers side rear brake light. So I popped off the little plastic round things, and I removed the nuts with the 10mm socket (ONE FELL IN THE HOLE ARRGGHH!!!) So should I just tug on the light assembly and the light should come out? Or do I need to take the whole plastic cover back there off to get to it?

But seriously thats a whole lot easier than the front ones. Once again this Forum proves to be far more help than the Mazda manual. Thanks people!

(alright)

installing my jdm taillights right now. i didnt know about the clip. just joined the "dropped nut in the hole" club

i learned the hard way as well...what i do is put a small piece of masking tape on the nut, put my nut driver over the nut...push it on, unscrew the nut and the nut stays inside the night driver...i hate when i lose a nut!!!(naughty)

Sorry to bump an old thread, but this is just pissing me off now.

I changed the passenger side brake light a year ago. Took like 5 minutes. No fuss.

Driver side brake light went out about 3 months ago. Finally got around to replacing it this weekend. I started going at the nut with a socket wrench. But the effing last nut way on the side is at an angle, and there's less room on the drivers side (passenger side has that nice little hole where you store the tools). My wrench won't fit in that tiny little hole for the 3rd nut. It sticks out a little bit and rubs up against the plastic, and i'm unable to get a grip. (bang) How are you guys getting to that last nut on the side?

Any "alternative" ways to get to that bastard? I tried some pliers to see if I can reach in, but no dice. Can't get any good leverage. Piece of crap stupid Japanese over engineering. What idiot decided you need to take off an entire light assembly to change one bulb.

i used a nut driver on all of them with some tape inside the socket so the nut won't fall off...works great
