I have no need for the rails and it would really make the car slick without them. Anyone know if I can just pull all the plastic and leave it or will I need some sort of OEM cover for the gutters?

when i bought my p5 it had no racks on it, but there's some kind of oem cover that protects the notches where the rack would sit in place.

oh and btw are you going to sell your rack since you arent using it?

Most people on here try to find someone who want racks, and trade them for the OEM covers because they are pretty hard to come by.
+1 to the car looking better with no racks, I would get rid of mine but I use them for snowboarding season

I just got done removing my roof racks...let me tell you, pain in the ass!, you have to take off all the plastic pillars from the inside and remove the interior roof to access 4 bolts on each side...im going to link you to the thread now :)

and to order the OEM inserts comes out to about $150

taking this from another thread...

"I just purchased the parts from, http://www.onlinemazdaparts.com ,
You need both right and left part numbers and order 10 clips...
right is: BJ3D509H0E
left is: BJ3D509L0E
clips is: G1YS50629B

The total with shipping: $140.88 "

good luck...while my roof was off i painted it black :D

I took off my rack it is in good shape. All the blank covers are their, the only thing is a plastic cover on the cross brace has a crack. i will trade some one for the filler pieces.Sorry for jumping in on your post.

Thanks for the link to the informative thread. I think I'll not worry about taking off the rails....
