tell me though if you are using 30% of your front-tires traction in wheel spin, does that not only leave 70% of the traction to be used in cornering?
as opposed to a rear wheel drive where 100% of the front-tires(steering tires, important for handling) can be used for traction throughout the corner.
not trying to start an argument, thats just the way i look at it (hippy)

in a way, you do...... but i've done stock racing.....and just for kicks my friend and i decided to take some FWD cars out to mess with when we had a "test session" for ourselves....
with FWD and the proper tires, you don't really have "tire spin"
you DO however have braking...... when you're braking, and turning at the same time...... it's the same effect as a RWD car, because the weight bias is about 80% front tires and 20% rear (just an example, I'm most likely off)
since you're braking and turning at the same time, you're sacrificing traction, which is why some cars understeer and don't go in the direction you turn, that's why in racing they run on the apex, so they can brake to slow down before needing the traction for turning.....
the thing about FWD is that it pulls the car around the corner.....with RWD you're "pushing" the car in a sense..... rwd would be more prone to oversteer when given too much gas......simply the tail end sliding out...... something that's not as easy to do on a FWD car.... that's why a lot of people suggest FWD cars can be better cars around the track.

And I've often wondered about the mazdaspeed3.... I'd have gotten one if it was AWD......have you driven one? That torque steer is horrible, I can only imagine how it gets worse when you mod and put more power in your car...... (headshake
all i'm going to say is if you are into the build, in almost any form of racing (outside of top fuel), all layouts are competive. there are fwd drag cars in the low 7's now, on the socal time attack scene rwd, awd & fwd track records are within a second of each other. just takes more money to get the job done in most cases with fwd.
here's a kinda crappy 6i burnout....but the ebrake only holds so much. and i'd put my car up against a speed6 in any form of racing, no worries on my fwd at all.

ah..k i see. ya i guess if you had some stickies on front, a fwd would handle really well!
nice fwd burnout btw...once i get my 4banger stang running again. i'll show you some fourth gear burnouts without touching the brakes ;-p i have some old street tires on it still that don't grab asphalt worth a damn.

like you said though it costs more money with a FWD application to be competitive, money isn't something everyone has, so it's a b**** to do. I still think FWD cars vs RWD will do better in an auto-x but that's just from my personal experience in driving both around a track.
for the record, i got over painting my car. i've changed bodykits and panels so many times, it's not worth it. not since it's mostly focused for track fun....it's black krylon for the win. ya just get used to it after a while i guess...

That's cool though, I thought it was your daily, not a race toy....
i like my girl's 6s, the triptronic canbe fun, I've raced a few idiots in it thinking they were faster..... a few civics, a jetta, and a V6 accord coupe.... I thought those were faster, apparently not.... but the triptronic is nice cause you can actually downshift it and get into the power range with the rpm
she has a CAI and wants an exhaust (but says they cost too much, til I told her a turbo back for my car is $1200) they're nice cars.....
it will eventually be flat black, but will take some time. as more parts get dinged up...they just get painted.
and it is my daily driver....when i have it it gets about 20k miles a year on it. i just don't care about much outside of performance on the track. auto is nice on traffic for sure, especially out here in cali with all the driving i do, but on the track....just doesn't hang all to well.
still looking for updates on the V6 with all the power though, very interested in what it took to get up there.
