Removing side molding tips?

Get a long zip tie and put it under the edge and slowly pull. I removed all mine in about 5m tops. Just pull steady and if you watch the tape you can see when you need to stop a sec and then start again. It's really easy.

I used no remover or anything. Just a zip tie.

After you're done, use a spray bottle to clean up the area (dirt that got under) and any glue. For the glue you should only have to grab and pull as for me it just came right off. Or just roll it with your finger. However, if you do it right you should have almost none.

After its all clean, wax and you're done.

Enjoy!!!

I just let my car sit out in the sun for a while on a warm day and went up and ripped it off with my fingers, came right off and didnt leave any of the glue behind.

Let the car warm up in the sun. If you can't get it off with just your fingertips, use dental floss.

Let it sit out in the sun for a few hours or use a hair dryer while slowly pulling it off. Crystal White will have a yellowish line but it'll disappear in a few days. Where in the bay area ? I'm in Walnut Creek

Just a hairdryer and your finger tips. Go slow (that way the adhesive will stick to the molding, not the car). It's really very easy!!!

Pardon my ignorance, but are y'all removing the side moldings for aesthetic reasons (i.e. cleaner look)? I guess I'm in the minority in wanting these on since my WRX didn't have them and I got a good bit of door dings. Or do the MS3 ones not protect all that well from them?

Your still going to get door dings regardless if you have the side moldings on or not, they are placed a bit too low on the door to protect from anything. Any door I've seen open near my car would hit a few inches above where the moldings are. On the CWP the side moldings didnt match the paint anyway they were a tad darker.

Yeah the yellowish line bothered the hell out of me. I sat there and washed my car twice (boom06)

Yeah, it's like wearing a stripe for a helmet.

It drove me crazy, I washed it twice, used rubbing compound, pre wax cleaner, clay bar, waxed twice, then a different compound for a speed wheel and could still see a faint line, then it just went away by itself after a couple days and the next time I washed I didnt notice it.

Yeah I didn't really want to remove them because I feared something like that would happen ... I was a mess that day lol

hehe, I'm in the minority in that I like the side moldings.

I liked the side moldings too, it was a tough decision for me but with the car tinted and I'm trying to pick up a set of hyper black RPM2's if Enkei starts making them again it looks slick without them on. Plus they just trap dirt and water.

I left them on on my old Protege5. Got dings galore. I didn't even know if I'd like the look of them removed from the MS3, but once I did it I was blown away by how clean the car looked!

I am going to do this as soon as I get my full Zaino kit...that way I can peel them and give her a real good scrub and wax...

ive owned my mgm almost a week now and havent even noticed then. Now that i found this thread im sure i will lol

I'd like to add that I didn't do it for cosmetic reasons. I like that the car is easier to wash, and it elimanates a point where stuff can accumulate and eventually corrode the paint at the moulding/sheet metal junction.

When I removed mine after the first winter, even though the car was recently washed, there was plenty of fine particulate matter trapped.

Just another view from the peanut gallery ....
