Guys,

I read this thread last night and decided to give a try today.

That thread refers to silencer, which I actually believe is a deflector. Since water could get in through the scoop, it would deflect the water from going straight to the filter. In any case, I went ahead and also removed the baffle/silencer, which is tucked away behind the driver's side fog light. It was very easy to remove......all you need is a philips screw driver and a 13mm socket. Undo the bottom of the plastic covers inside the driver's side fender and push it away. Locate and remove all 3 nuts holding the silencer. Once that's done, tilt the silencer towards you and pull down. Do not forget to put the nuts back!! They also hold either A/C, power steering or transmission lines.

You will have a short piece of pipe sticking from the airbox. I think it's a good idea, because now you have 2 openings to the air box, increasing airflow. This bottom opening also sits lower and farther away from heat than the scoop. Engine sound wasn't very noticeable to me. With windows down, you might hear a slight suction sound....with windows up, it's just about the same. My butt dyno isn't very sensitive, so can't tell much about power.
Anyway, hope you all like this idea!

Rick
