I was wondering how difficult it was to remove the front bumper. Does anyone have any pics and the locations of all of the bolts? Thanks

It's actually a piece of cake. I don't have any pics, but you shouldn't need them. Do this:

1. Remove 11 bolts that hold the bottom of the bumper to the underside of the car. They are either 10mm or phillips (go with the phillips)

2. Remove the two screws (again phillips) and the four clips from the top of the bumper.

3. Remove the two front clips from each front wheel well. Then pull back the lining and remove the screw (phillips) that holds the bumper to the fender. It is up at the top, and is a vertical screw.

4. Then remove the bumper. There are clips that will pop right out that hold the bumper to the fender. There are also a couple of big clips in the front that clip into the bumper support. You'll see what I mean.

5. Un-clip the fogs and the temp sensor.

You're done.

AWSOME!!!!! Thanks for the response!!!

In step 4 you talk about clips.... are these clips hard to get off? I have encountered some parts mounted with clips that make you pull so hard to get them off that you feel like you are braking something.

The clips that hold the bumper to the fenders pop right off, and then right back on at install. They are a piece of cake. The clips that hold the bumper to the bumper support actually have to be undone by hand. It's hard to explain, but you'll see what I mean.

I removed my bumper a couple of weeks ago, following less descriptive instructions than I just gave you, and had no issues. It took 15 minutes to get off, and 10 to put back on. Removal would have been quicker, but the clips that hold the fog light wires on are a royal pain to get out. Just pull on them really hard, they will come out. Good luck, though you shouldn't need it.

By the way, what are you doing?

I am installing a CAI. I know I can do it by removing the driver side wheel and the panels in there, but rather than straining myself with the hard to reach areas i figured i'd just go ahead and take off the bumper like the directions say.

Well I jacked the car up. Removed the giant splash guard underneath and removed all the required OEM intake parts. Took about 2 hours. If I had removed other parts I defiantely think it could have gone smoother though. Just saying I did it without having to.

Bumper removal is a piece of cake. If it makes the job at all easier, I'd say remove it.

While you have it off, add in a low tone horn so you can honk without embarrassment. It's a $14 mod that takes 3 minutes. You can buy the horn at AutoZone that screws right into an existing bracket right next to the current horn. Easiest mod ever once the bumper is off.

im a paranoid person, and ive never owned a CAI before, I think i would be kind of worried with water situations, even with a bypass valve, or whatever it is you use to help avoid hydrolock. it floods a lot in certain places here.

That's not being paranoid, it's being logical. If you live in an area that is prone to flooding, and the pools of water are often deeper than they look, it would be far easier for you to suck up water with a CAI. If you want to stick with Mazda parts, there are some of us running the MS-CAI in SRI form with no problems, or you can buy an SRI from any number of reputable manufacturers. The important thing is to buy a professionally designed and tested intake and get rid of that restrictive factory box.

Where is the horn? I know it is somewhere on the drivers side. Also, is it possible to just replace the stock horn? or is it better to have the low tone operate at the same time?

Speaking a which a friend of mine has an extra dukes of hazzard horn laying around that I may try to hook up.

If you take off the bumper, you can't miss the horn. It is on the driver's side. I just added the low tone to the high tone that comes with the car. Most cars come with both, so when you add the low tone, you get a very normal sounding horn, not the ridiculously embarassing horn the MS3 comes with.

My point is, if you are going to take off the bumper anyway, you might as well spend the $14 and man up your horn a little. :)

Installed my CAI today and removed the bumper. It was as simple as hilmar2k said. the only hard part about it was getting those damn wire ties for the temp sensor and the fog lights off. Other than that it was easy. Thanks for the information guys.
