remote start installation

I just got a car alarm that has a built in remote start feature. I need help locating the Ignition, Starter, and Tach wires. Everything else is almost hooked up but I am having trouble finding those wires. I have a manual transmission so I need to know if there are any mod's i need to do to make it all work right.

Thanks

Yo man
Be REALLY caareful on leaving it in neutral
My friend had one on his corrado and about a year later he started it and it went through a store window.
Note to self "Don't leave in gear EVER with a remote starter"
Good luck though

I hope you know that its illegal to have a Remote start system on a manual tranny vehicle, in the Great State of Texas. Dinger just told you why, But who gives a ****!

If you have a Compustar system, M/T is no problem, except it's a little more thinking on your part every time you get out of the car. In order for remote start to work, before you exit the vehicle you have to:
1) have the car in neutral
2) have the handbrake set
3) exit the car with the engine running, shut the door, and arm 'reserve mode'.

the car turns off after you set reserve mode and you can start it again with the remote without worrying about the car leaving your parking spot.

The alarm I have is the Aladdin 2000 system. I dont know what the procedures for remoste start on it are yet, still looking for those few wires to get it running...

Does anyone know where those wires are?? I need this setup as soon as possible.. i have almost all of the wires connected and its a pretty clean install job... I saved the 300 bucks it was going to cost the audio place to install it. (and they wouldnt hook up the starter wire because of liability issues.) But everything else was going to cost 300 bucks.

I've been thinking of the remote start thing...it gets hella cold here in Winnipeg. Is the above the normal procedure for remote car starters and if so, how does one leave the engine running without leaving the keys in the car?

It's a part of the system. Once you set the e-brake and put the car in neutral, the Compustar CU tells the engine to keep running after you take the keys out. Once you close all the doors and arm the car, the engine shuts off.

Compustar is a very good system, but they are also very expensive.

Whoever need a good autostart with build in alarm function, please email to us. Don't worry, we do have a very good system which will work only for M/T used. They are very easy to install and very safe, too. We also provide you technical support of the entire installation.

Feel free to contact us by email at any time.

Just another example of how my posts get ignored. (sniff)
Or maybe the search feature quit working.

The Protege's have a neutral trigger wire on the damn transmission! What this means is that there's no need for a special alarm system, or Compustar or Clifford Manual Transmission Mode. You don't have to jump through hoops to remote start your car. Any remote start system will work on the 5spd Protege. You just have to wire into the neutral trigger:
Pink wire/green stripe. This wire is grounded when the car is in neutral. Look directly below the battery for a connector on a gold bracket. It's on the top of the back of the transmission.

I should charge money for this info.

sttl013, thanks for all that info.. its about time someone posted that on this thread.

As for the neutral wire? i am not sure what im supposed to hook this up to. my first thought was the neutral wire on the alarm, but then the alarm wont get any power while it is in gear.. so thats out. do i need a relay hookup somewhere? im going to check the manual for the alarm again but i dont think it listed anything about a neutral wire on the tranny.

Also' I'm guessing that the wire gets bypassed or isnt even used when your starting with a key and the clutch. Or is it wired into the clutch pedal to complete the curcuit..... ive just gotten millions of questions from that one post...

Heres another.. its prob a stupid one.. but wheres the ignition harness??

Thanks
