reman crankshaft

So I've got mad rod knock, like evil. Soo I don't trust my current crank for rebuilding. I've found a few options though. I can get a ford probe crank, brand new, never used...but I always understood them to be unforged as opposed to the protege's forged crank. Orielly's has reman cranks with matched rod and main bearings. My question is...can I use OE or TOGA bearings with the reman crank, or will they not seat right due to the crank being remanufactured?

The thing about the CRB (Crankshaft Rebuilders) crank from O'Reilly's is that you won't know how much the crankshaft has been cut before actually getting it. Plus, the crankshaft you'll get is the CAST crank. I've ordered 2 of them. Both of which had the cast stamp ID on them, so, you're right back to your initial concern. You can use any bearing that is matched to your cut. If it's .010, you get the oversized bearings to match. If it's .020, get oversized bearings to match. I've personally offered the best option to you in my opinion. A brand-new, uncut, OEM cast crankshaft or a remanufactured, machined crank that could be .040" cut and CAST, with cheap bearings that's been dropped 30 times from the supplier to the store.

Forged crank or cast crank... It doesn't matter unless you are shooting for big power. If it's a stock rebuild you are going to throw a rod before the crank breaks.

Which is word-for-word what I told him in our PMs.

Thanks for the info, I am in the same position right now. I guess it depends on you definition of big power, either way I think I will probably look around a bit more before springing for the forged crank. I honestly haven't even priced either or yet so I have no idea the difference.

I have a stock crank out of a motor that has 89K miles on it. Not sure if it will need to be turned, but I can have it checked out. As is I'm asking $150 for the crank. It is a forged crank.
