Reliability?

you guys scare me. i'm 17 and just got a silver msp 2 weeks ago. it has no mods, and i don't kno all that much about cars. if i run it at stock turbo when does the boost automatically kick in? do i need to worry about when i'm shifting, if i'm on a hill ect.? what is the best way to ensure a long life for my engine?

I'd recommend a vac/boost gauge first of all, just as a safety precaution, in case your wastegate fails or you develop a boost leak in the wastegate line. It can save you from overboosting and blowing your s*** up. The boost gauge will also help you develop driving habits that are less harsh on the car. Such as; avoiding boost at low RPMs, 5th gear, uphill, etc. It can also alert you to vac leaks and other problems your car could develop. You will learn more about driving the car from the gauge such as when boost kicks in, how long it takes, max boost psi level, etc. If you are not comfortable installing it, have it installed by a professional shop.

preventive meintenance is your best friend.
change your motor oil AND transmission oil regularly.
make sure u use good coolant.

boost gauge is good as well, to find out how your car is behaving, and it can help you save gas.

Hey everyone, I am just curious to see how many people have blown their motor and under what circumstances did it happen? ( boost spike, other reasons, etc.) I just want a clear understanding of how people are blowing their motors and what is mostly causing it. Any information would be helpful. It would be nice to compile some reliable data on why it is happening. I have a 2003 Spicy MSP with 60,000 miles on it w/ no mods yet and I have not had a single problem......knock on wood.
31,526 miles been boostin 10-12psi for almost 3 years, w/ tons of oil changes. intervals of 15-2500 miles. she sat for almost a year for a lsd breakage, and 8 months waiting to buy a new radiator
