Yes thank you for your kind observation. This was just to show how much extra leather I have to tuck under the latch, hence preventing me from closing it.

Does it look like I put it backward?

When I put mine on backwards it was apparent because the back side had some vertical "love handles" along the curved edge because the overhang is cut narrower for the front edge.

Thanks. Here are some pics. It looks alright except that I can't close it. Is the seam of the elastic band supposed to be facing front or back?

I tried to turn it around but it just looks goofy.

You have it on correctly. Just tuck the leather between the latch and lid like Kain said.

If you feel so inclined, you can shift the armrest cover slightly towards the rear so you have less excess on the front.
