Recommended exhaust

Mazdaspeed3 GT
I am looking at upgrading the exhaust system for my 07 MS3. I called in to my dealer to check pricing on the Mazdaspeed3 Sport Exhaust (GRMS-8M-L26). The technician I spoke with quoted me ~$500 without installation, but pointed out that the power gains would be extremely minimal. He could not quote me a size, but he suggested that the piping was not significantly larger than the stock MS3 exhaust and it is only a cat-back as well. The only complimentary words he had about it were that it sounded deeper and more menacing than the stock exhaust.

Questions:
Does anyone have any further information regarding the size of the MS3 Sport Exhaust? Is there any benefit to fitting that piece on the vehicle and going with an alternate vendor for turbo to cat?

Who else does anyone recommend for turbo back exhaust systems?

When replacing headers back, what needs to be done in order to pass emissions testing (the non cheating definition of the word "pass")?

The dude at the dealership was correct... you wont see much of a HP gain if any if you upgrade to the mazdaspeed exhaust. Its basically just for sound like the guy said. The stock speed3 exhaust is pretty good straight outta the factory. The price for the mazdaspeed exhaust is accurate too, from what Ive seen. I would suggest getting the CPE Exhaust & downpipe... It sounds rediculous (as in good)... however its 1100.00 for the both of them. I dont remember all the details about the exhaust specifically but check out *************** for info on it. Has sound clips and video and everything. I do remember that you would have to cut the stock MS3 exhaust out and would prolly void your warranty. So if warranty is a concern then go with the mazdaspeed exhaust. Also I think replacing the downpipe might help add some HP but cant remember. Hope this helped. Oh and one more thing I remembered (lol its all coming back to me now) with the CPE exhaust you can choose between a straight pipe or a muffler... but CPE states that the straight pipe will be ungodly loud. Ive done my research on this exhaust... I know Im gonna get one.

Warranty is a concern, but not the primary one. If anyone has had issues with warranty due to after market exhaust systems (not including headers), I'd love to hear about them.

I'll have to get under the car to confirm whether or not the stock one has to be cut out rather than removed in a more peaceful manner. When speaking with the technician, he did mention that the MS exhaust would need to be welded into place rather than bolted, so that seems to support your statement. I'm not terribly concerned with non performance enhancements, especially ones as noticable as noise so I'll probably stick with the stock exhaust for a bit.

Get a cp-e. wont see much gains but you will spool quicker, plus its turbo back!

won't see much gains? the dyno sheets they have (assuming they are not falsified) show a 20hp gain with a large gain in the midrange, and a 40lb/ft of tq gain, with large gain both in low rpm's and the midrange.

go with the cp-e, it's what im saving up for

Well they also claimed x hp and tq from their intake. I only saw about a 9hp gain, 4tq at the wheels. I was on a dyno dynamics though. Just dont expect much from an exhaust, but the fact you spool quicker means you have the power sooner. Its better to have more power through your whole rev range vs making peak hp.
I want a CP-E exhaust too

very true. reading up on how they went about making the intake with the MAF and such seemed very intriguing, and that they weren't making just another cai for profit. theres a thread floating around on another forum somewhere. they seem like a reliable company with good products. but, claimes hp and tq always seems to be higher than the actual numbers.

I was thinking about the Corksport Exhaust. Does the CPE sound better? Im actually trying to go with the least noisiest because if i toss on a downpipe, i dont want it extremely loud.

LOL.....how do you not expect much from a full turbo back exhaust system(down pipe & catback)?

Well I would think that not expecting much on our car is vaild since it comes mandrel bent and bad ass just stock. On any other car adding all that then yeah gains would be higher.

I would like to see how that full turbo back kit would do but the noise would piss me off after a while. Its pretty loud with the CAI and stock exhaust but it sounds good as opposed to annoying.

I believe when you order the CP-E exhaust from *a certain website* you have the option of a few diff resonators and mufflers for a quieter sound.

What does that do for flow? Does it kill it?

Just got my exhaust done over the weekend...I have the Corksport Downpipe and I had an exhaust shop build me 3" all the way back to a kicked Apexi N1 muffler. No dyno yet but definite 2 car jump! the torque difference is insane! It sounds like a mean STI on throttle but normal driving you can barely hear it...just a little rumble...it has no restrictions...no cats, no resonators...just all straight pipe...I love it! I'll get some pics and vids up this week sometime. Oh and no lights the Corksport DP has a extension for the O2 sensor and it works great! Cost me 420.00 for the DP, 200.00 for the Muffler, and 250.00 for the custom exhaust and welding.

So the cork DP doesnt have any additional bungs for a add on wideband o2 sensor? I would like to check out your pics, so upload them soon please!

They charged me $20.00 for the extra O2 bung for the Wideband...you just have to call them to get it done...

I guess nonone on this thread has seen and heard my vids. Check it out on youtube.com under user "jubanqt". All my vids are there with the setup I have.

Sounds good but it just seems too noticable if that makes sense. Stock exhaust you can hear a little bit but its not over the top like that.

Thanks for the clips because I have thought about doing this but am pretty sure I wont.

The inside noise would drive me nuts pretty fast and you werent really on the high RPM's either. If you want some noise that is the set up to get though and it sounds mean but not ricey which is killer.

Whitey please ask before you talk... Yes I was on the high rpms. Both vids where I was running it I switched out @ 5800 or higher rpms. Also both of those vids I had the front windows down.

There is not much more drone with windows up than the stocke exhaust.

And yes this is the most meanest MS3 here in Miami...buahahahaha

BTW, you control the loudness of this system.

You took video of the guages it wasnt at 5800 rpm when you were just chillin through town. That wasnt the worst part it was that cold start video that just was so damn loud at idle. I work with old people and do home health and even with the stock exhaust they hear me coming, lol. I am sort of over setting off car alarms I guess but some people still are in that stage so its all personal taste.

Thats cool though if you like this sort of thing but its not what I was looking for so I am glad someone got a video of all that to help others make a choice. It would suck to buy all that then not like it but hearing those videos makes the choice easy.
