I took my car in yesterday for the 2 little emission recalls and suprised they gave me a car other then a ford focus they gave me a ford edge. I like they way it looks on the outside for a ford but inside it was just cheap and crappy even compared to the sport cx7 and the engine was sad excuse for a V6.

the AC fan was loud even on its lower settings and understeer was bad took like 5 turns of the wheel to merge it seemed. transmission was old lady like even when I tried to do 80 on the freeway.

i'm glad I got a chance to drive it for more then a test drive to make me feel better about spending the money I did on my CX7. it was a rent a car but it only had 2500 miles on it so no excuse. plus it was free covered under warranty

They gave me a pt cruiser. Because of the seats, I felt higher up in that than in my own car! Definitely appreciated the 7 even more after getting her back! :D

Good to hear cuz that is how I felt the Ford would be compared to the Mazda....What got me on the Edge was the panoramic roof but outside of that Mazda wins hands down in every category! Thanks for sharing that experience!

Come on now...the Edge isn't that bad. That sad excuse of a V6 is in the CX-9 as well although Mazda, noting the 9 is bigger and heavier gave it more power this year. I too have driven the Edge and you have to give the interior props on how quiet it is compared to our CX-7's. All said and done though...I bought the 7 because I prefer the 7.

I've been in a top of the line Edge, and its really great, I loved it for easy driving, the roof made me light up because of the CX-7(mine) not having any sort of opening. But again, not the same at all, and the EDGE's V6 is smooth.

Yeah, I liked the Edge's power train. It was decent for the quick test drive I did. I say "decent" just because I have been able to drive it extensively. The interior, however, is what made me get away from it. I almost always rest my arm on the top of the interior door panel and it was hard plastic. That doesn't work with my boney elbows. The head rest was contacting the area where my spine and my neck meet, which made it uncomfortable. And to top it off, the dealer wanted much more money for the Edge over the CX-7. It wasn't worth a premium for a worse interior. Plus, living in SE MI, the Edges are a dime a dozen. They're everywhere.

Funny how we are all different about what we like/dislike. I liked the Edge's interior and i disliked the powertrain. I felt that the engine had to work too hard to move the vehicle. It didn't mind revving to redline, but to me, it didn't feel like it was doing anything. Whereas the CX-7 revs and moves. Also, to me, it just drove like "blah," cornering, etc.

That said, its a great vehicle for a Ford, and if I wanted a "cruiser" I think the Edge would be a good choice, but it just wasn't sporty to me.

No, I feel the same way about the EDGE and the CX-9, the V6's lack the torque that the Turbo4 Puts out(along with the vibration to let you know) and therefore feels like its not going anywhere, but the speed builds up quickly. The Six Speed is quick to downshift which was great.
