Rear Wiper is not working 2011 CX-9 Sport

Hi Guys,

Just notice my rear wiper was falling below the starting position. Tested and it's no longer worker. I suspect its the motor since the wiper does not have support and keeps dropping. I'm a DIYer. Is this something I can do myself?

On another note, my Cx-9 is a CPO and still has the 7 year/100k mile warranty on it. Would the wiper motor be covered under Mazda CPO?

It may just have loosened to the point that the splines aren't making good contact at the base of the arm. Pop off the cover and tighten the nut underneath with a socket. Don't crank it down or you can break the motor, but in the other hand it doesn't have to get real loose to allow slipping. When wipers hang loose like that, it's a common cause.

Start the car, turn on the rear wiper and verify that it's not just a case of the spines getting stripped and not turning the arm. Should be easy to tell just by watching/listening to the rear wiper while standing behind the car.

Assuming the motor isn't running at all the next logic step would be to check the fuse, then pull the rear hatch panel and check that voltage is reaching the wiper motor connector. If it is you'll have to swap the motor, if it isn't you'll need to troubleshoot where the connection is broken.

After I posted my message. I went out and checked it. It was just a lose nut. Tigten the nut again and everything is good. I forgot to check back. This would've helped! (hand)

Anyone had/has issues with their wipers especially the rear one. Since purchasing my CX9 about 3 months ago I noticed that the front wipers are not that smooth compared to my other vehicle which is half the price of the cx9. And this weekend I noticed that my rear wiper was having difficulty especially when the windows aren't that wet. Sometimes it doesn't work at all and had to turn the wiper knob on and off. At times it stops in the middle or doesn't return to it's resting position. I did check the nut and it wasn't loose. I only have 4000 kms on the car.
