Rear Wiper DEAD

My rear wiper died today. It wasnt even gradual. Noticed that it was relatively slow a few days ago, wake up to this morning with the snow and it stopped working. I changed the blades when I noticed that it was getting slow, as I thought the old blade was hindering it somehow. I guess its an electrical problem?

Anyone know how to fix this or diagnosis on my own?

Anyone know a good place to take this in Toronto (somehow who knows electrical stuff)?

How much should this cost (so that I dont get ripped off)?

TIA!

Pretty sure the motor is behind the liftgate trim. You could order one from bagman1 (he works for Mazda parts) and do the replacement yourself. I am sure the procedure is in the shop manual, stickied somewhere else in this section. When you're done, you should post your experience with pics so that then we can all do it. Good luck!

I just changed mine out about a month ago. Hopefully yours isn't totally dead or Mazda will want $280 for a new one. I found used one online luckily.

First I'd check if there's any blown fuses, if so its likely new wiper motor time...
Check the manual to remove the wiper motor, its not too hard. Hardest part is getting the rear trim off the tailgate, and not losing the metal tabs.....

The motor shaft might just need some cleaning and new grease. I ran mine for too long and killed the motor, as SOON as you notice the wiper acting slow it needs to be taken off and lubed up !

As I always say, this car is not meant for Canadian winters!

yeah mine was frozen when I got it. The main shaft driving the blade was SO tight with corrosion. I just disassembled and reamed it a little, lubed & reassembled. But if the motor's gone or the plastic drive gear strips, it gets messy.
