well i put my spring in took about an extra hour an half because because the mazda factory decided to put one bolt in backwards on the strut which made it impossible to release but no matter after some hard thinking and elbow grease (impact wrench) i got it!

That not the problem my seat belts in the rear are now stuck all the way in and i cant release it so thier hanging there and so is the rest of my int cant be put back til they are unstuck. am i screwed and justneed to go to the junkyard? i dunno anyone else have this problem?

you have to tilt them in the right direction if not they will stay locked... i remember running across the same problem when i was trying to put the seat belts back in place... Yours might be different, b/c i just noticed u have a P5

(uhm)i remember i put mine down when i was un bolting the struts.. then i tried to pick them back up and they were stuck.. then i moved them back and forth and they unlocked.. I think that is what locks them when you hit the brakes, the momentum of the car must lock the belts... Somebody correct me if im wrong.

haha damn so i have to fiddle and fiddle damn it and aprox angle?

They have to be on the same level that they were on when installed. It takes a little messing with but it's not too bad. It's kinda like a zen mind trick or chinese handcuffs. The harder you try, the worse it gets.

went out there fiddled and fiddled i give up for tonight and ill work on it tomorrow right now its wieght reduction!

BlueMP5Dave and I had a hell of a time with mine, too. Like paulMP3 said, you have to hold them perfectly level and pull the belt out slowly. Keep trying, it took Dave about ten minutes to do mine, so either he's a Zen-Master :D, or it's all in the angle.

Come to think of it...he IS a pretty CALM individual.(uhm) Master Dave? Where are you?

Come to tihnk of it i bought my spring from dave i tihnk its his doing!

Or take them apart and pull enough belt out so you can bolt it all back together, but still have the belt sit tight against the seat. Then take a drive down to your dealership and tell them ur belts wont unlock. They will replace them under warranty. :)

Most seatbelt use a pendulm type device to lock them so when hard braking, or an accident, the belts lock in place, thus potentially saving your ass..

It's an angle thing, that's all it is..

I see them getting installed in the MDX's and Pilots, and if the angle isn't right, they lock, so they then ahve to reseat them.

If you take them out, you can see this when you try to play with them..

I don't know if it's an angle thing in our case. I think that for some reason if you let the belt back in too far, it automatically locks to show mazda that you messed with the stock position. I fiddled with the belt assembly for like 2 hours and couldn't get it to move. I warned everyone in that group buy to not let the seat belts out far and to tie them, so you guys wouldn't have the same problem I had. I guess you didn't look. :/

I let go of mine the first time I did my sedan. What a nightmare that was, I was prying on it with a screwdriver for a hour. Then I went inside calmed myself down. After a hour I went back out and got it the second try. When I did yours Nate it was unintentional. I have had alot of experience with it.

Hold the seatbelt level to your chest. let a little slack in on it and pull very gently out. Thats how it works for me. if you are patient it might take you a few tries but I am sure you can do it. Be patient be one with the seatbelt.:D

on the sedan there was a brass bar, if you lifted this with like a screwdriver it should come right out.

Not on the 2001 model, believe me I tried everything but being patient at first. Patience is the key.:)

Is this proven? That when the seatbelts go in too far, they lock for good? My whole assembly is out the car right now, so its retracted as much as it could, I still have some play, but I can't get it out at all.

Remount the seatbelts then very, very, very slowly pull them out. It takes lots of patience. They typically will not unlock unless the are in the correct position.
