Real World MPG numbers?

Must be 14.6 just in the tank and then the filler neck topped off will fit most of another gallon.................
used to get ~30 mixed city/hwy on my manual, now (18 months later) its only about 22-24. Have no idea wtf happened! changed plugs, new filters, oil, cleaned maf sensor, cleaned egr, no CEL, tires at 35-38psi, no roof rack, no extra weight, various gas stations, doesn't matter if i shift at 2.5k, or at 4k+. someone suggested to check the o2 sensor which may be a bit off w/o triggering a CEL, but i doubt it'll give me a 30% milage increase! also had an auto p5, which gave about 24 ctiy/hwy mix, 28 when mostly highway.

How do y'all get that much gas in ur car? I can barely squeeze 12.6 gallons with it on e for like 5 miles. With 93 I get 30 mpg with 87 I get 28 mpg

How much does weight affect milage? Cause I have a good 75 extra pounds from the speaker box and subs. Also how much would lowering it help?
The peak horse power in our cars is somewhere around 3000RPM which equates to around 68MPH

Ok, so maybe 28-30 is achievable in an automatic with 80 highway, 20 city driving, synthetics, a good air filter??
Gee, I just ran across an '03 with 120k on chassis and 1,200 on new engine. It's in my price range and meets all my criteria...

P.S. as for getting the most accurate MPG numbers, you really need to fill up at the same station, same pump, same level every time. I know that's not easy, but that is the most accurate way.

i believe 30mpg is achieveable with all maint. done and sys fluids. and keeping it under 70 al all time.

Horse power usually peaks in the higher rpm range torque peaks in the lower rpm range. After about 6.5k it loses all power anyway. Btw I'm getting 28 mpg mostly city driving so 30 mpg should be easy to do especially highway

HP peak and torque peak and max engine efficiency are all in different places. Peak HP does not = peak mpg.

I know it means peak power which is where I like to be 
it looks fast may as well make it go fast. This same thing has been discussed so much. How high or low your rpms are doesn't effect it as much as how much throttle your giving it or areo dynamics on thing that kills these cars is how high off the ground they are. Notice a lot of people in th 30+ range are lowered? I don't have a problem with it all that much but then again I say that looking at my 7- 17 mpg buick atleast the mazda is more consistent. For older cars 30 mpg isn't all that bad

that is right....is not that bad.... i was ready one of the latest consumer report magazine where they tested vehicle such the new elantra and ford focus.... those vehicles are getting only 29 mpg combined. i get about 26-28 on my driving style and i do not have sys fluid on it but i got 182k on the engine..
our vehicle is worth about $4500 compared to a new vehicle about 17K. i say we got a great deal on our hands

Yeah, thought I might have been gettin bored enough with the P5 to try somethin else like a 2 or an elantra or even God forbid, a Fiesta, but after I started driving the P5 again as daily driver with all this $4.00 a gallon s*** and my truck taking 75.00 to fill and truck only getting 18-19 mpg & the car started pullin all this 30-31mpg when I remembered it only pulling 24-25 mpg last time it was daily driver............I wasn't so bored with it after all. $52.00 to go 420 is way less boring than $75.00 to go 320......and not have a monthly payment either way. It basically breaks down to $8 a day to go back and forth to work in the car compared to $12 a day to drive the truck. So maybe I'll just do some test drives and taunt the sales people with my ridiculous deal requests where we trade even or I walk & walk,lol....and because I really don't like any of those 3 cars over the P5.
