Im ready to take my 3 for its scheduled service (22,500) although im bringing it a bit later ( i have a little over 25).
I am bringing up a couple of issues to the dealer and i would like to get som eopinions on what to expect. Whether this would be dismissed as 'there is nothing wrong', or will they be fixed. I checked out the TSBs and i was able to found maybe one applicable. So this is waht i have

1. Car is idling very rough at times. I brought this up a few months ago when i installed my HIDs and i thought that i may had been drawing too much amperage. I was told by several people that should not be a problem and that you would esxperience rough idling whenever the battery was unplugged and plugged again. So i ignored it but it is still happening at least once a day. This is an MT and it doesnt go low enough to stall but you can feel it and the RPMs drop below 500 sometimes. Should i remove my HIDs just in case they blame it on that and refuse to fix it?

2. Also when waiting at a light or parked i can hear a horrible noise (it sounds to me like a belt, or maybe the fan?). will this be covered by warranty?

3. Lately i hear a lot of vibration coming out of the engine (at least thats what i think). I dont really feel the vibration but i can hear sort of a slight vibration. It ios hard to explain the noise i hear but sometimes i sounds like when you blow air into a glass of soda through a straw ( i dont think that makes sense at all, lol). Im thinking engine mounts here?

4. Interior vibration, the front doors vibrate when a passesnger has left the car and just closed the door. I usually have to give it a pull from the inside and the rattle stops. I am also hearing rattling from above mye head, i think its the headliner. ANyone felt this before?

5. This is all i can think of as of now. I also saw the TSB on the crash sensor but i dont hink my car is part of the affected vehicles. I have to check the VIN

Thanks for everyones input. i really appreciate it.

the rattle in the passenger door is prob the one the tsb states... rough idle not really sure... try re setting the ecu again? the vibrations your feeling could very well be an engine mount... have you taken a look at them? do you launch your car at all?? the rattle you have in the head liner is it only when the sun roof is tilted up or does it happen all the time no matter what condition the sun roof is in? only reason i ask is mine makes noises but only when i have the roof tilted and only during spirited driving or over bumps??

my headliner used to squeak or rattles a bit, they seem to fix it by lubing it up it also happened more when it was warm out. good luck with your car

I had the same belt noise as you described in #2 and i took it in to my dealer in and they said that it just needed some lubricant for the belts. I didnt really like that answer but they did it anyway and the noise stopped so no complaints. Rattle could be the little clasp thing at the bottom of the dorr just check it out to see if its lose.

hmm thanks guys for all your answers.

Yeah the passenger door will prob taken care of by the TSB. The rough idling is tricky. i have reste my ECU multiple times since (i was screwing around with the Amp) and it has not fixed it so i doubt is that. Im still nervous about the idea that between the HIDs and the Amp i could be drwaing too much out of the battery and the alternator is working overtime. im not expert so please tell me if i am just crazy.
The headliner seems to happen at highspeed only, i have only heard it recently so i dont know if its the same when the sunroof is tilted or open, its too cold to try it out.
Launching? who me? just a bit, when i have an ugly ass civic or cavalier next to me. Or sometimes when i race my buddys GTI. yeah i guess i do my fair amount of launching... not every day but once a week maybe?
I guess its is possible the belts need some lubrication, i hope is just that and they are not just putting a band aid so it just blows later (hopefully for them when the warranty is up).

Please keep the answers/guesses/suggestion/comments coming.
thanks!

(bump) for more comments/ideas.

im taking it in tomorrow with all of the issues described above. i guess i'll just wait to see what they say.

Mines coming up on 20k, so i'll be doing this soon as well. Although ever since i got it, and it doesn't happen all the time, but when opening/closing the front windows (hardly ever use the rears, so maybe them too) but they make a horrible crack/pop noise, that litterally sounds like the window just broke...just wondering if you or anybody else has had that? Have not seen it on a TSB. It may be a simple, tighten the glass to the rail...but i dunno.

Otherwise i have no other issues at all.

The amp and HIDs *could* be drawing too much, i'd think it more the amp than the HIDs IF it was one of the 2. Grounds and main power connections should be double checked on both.

I'd disconnect what you can, give them the least amount of cop-out possible.

hey guys, just got back from the stealership.
They checked out the list i gave them and they have ordered a new AC compressor to replace mine, as well as a belt. According to them all issues where related to this.
They did forget to do the actual 22,500 mile service.
Oh well, i have scheduled an appointment for the 5th so i will know then if any/all of my issues will be resolved then.
Do you guys think it makes sense though? I always have the feeling that they just tell you that to get off the task of checking, they bank on the fact that if you still notice an issue you will go back.
It sort of does make sense, according to them the compressor was "loose" so that was the vibration, and also the strange noise when parked or at a light. Also it was drawing too much power from the battery and so thats why i was experiencing rough idling.

My passenger window did that , they ordered a window arm regulator and replaced it. now the pop/clunk is gone

kinda makes sense... who knows... kinda funny that they forgot to do the actuall service though... (first)

ya, typical airhead dealership...don't even do the work that you brought the car in for in the first place...morons.

I'll have them check out my windows when i bring it in, good to know there are others with the window issue. I mean, it's not good, but ya know...i'm not alone :)

It probably was more than just loose, but funny how they just replace s*** like robots and not troubleshoot...couldn't a loose compressor be, uhhh, tightened? hhehehe, like i said, it could have been more, but it's a typical dealer action...just keep replacing s*** till the problem goes away...or the customer goes away...

[edit] oops, just read they replaced it due the power drain... but i still stand on dealer techs are robots (generally, i know there are good techs out there)

i have to work on/trouble shoot automation all day, and when i have to work on a problem another tech worked on i have to roll my eyes b/c usually that means there are a ton of new parts it didn't need, and half of those are loose and not wired up right...and the original problem is still happening... imagine that... i call it the car mechanics approach...
