Rattle in the Dash...Anyone else?

Only 3700 gently driven miles and I have a rattle coming somewhere from inside the dash. It's a rattle that sounds similar to what a small metal jug may sound like. Maybe somewhere between the instrumentation and the Stereo. It settles down after 35 mph or so. Began about a week ago. Hopefully some of you are aware of it and can help me to help the tech when I bring it in. Thanks!

I was having a problem like that awhile back but it turned out to be the garage door opener I had.
That noise haunted me for months until I found it.
It may not be the car itself look around for things that may have loosened. Also pushing gently against any plastic in the car would fasten anything loosened as the car is all clips.

My car does the same thing, one tap on the top of the dash it goes away. Doesnt bother me enough to waste a day taking it in to the dealer.

+1 on this...I'm at that same millage point too (just about). I have done enough I blamed it on the work...what have you for mods?

I unearthed an unholy dash rattle last night! Stupid freaking town dug up a strip of road about 2 feet wide and 2 inches deep (!) and didn't leave a sign or cone up or anything. Drove over it going 40 mph because it's a country-ish road and VERY DARK at night. Car came crashing down over it. This morning, the rattle came - sounds like a metal tray like another poster said. ******* pissed! 1036 miles on the odometer.

I have about the 3500 miles so far and just noticed a dash rattle this morning. Awesomeness.

occasionally I get a little bit of rattle from the DSC panel...a smack usually stops it. Lately I have noticed a center of the dash rattle when taking accelerating from a stop just in a small part of the rpm range then goes away...which tells me its vibration based on the resonating of the motor\exhaust as around 2500-3k the resonating is at its worst..its something internal...nothing I can smack to fix.

I fixed my dash rattle! * knocks on wood * What I did was gave my dash a tender, loving massage. Haha. No, but seriously, I basically applied hard pressure to the whole stereo/HVAC area and it seemed to have fixed it. Haven't heard the rattle and I've driven 20 miles since I heard it. I guess I popped something back into place. * shrug *

I have two rattles that I'm aware of. One is the instrument cluster cowl on the left side, but that only happens when it's cold (e.g. winter). The other is a higher-pitched rattle coming from directly behind the stereo that occasionally happens at medium/freeway speed when it's warmer out (e.g. summer). The solution to both is to just turn the stereo up.

No Modifications and haven't met any serious potholes. Turning up the radio???....eh??...well the car this new, one shouldn't have to listen to an annoying rattle. Now, I know that rattles are only covered by the warranty for the 12 mos./ 12,000 miles. Going to bring it in and ask that they call me before removing the dash. To do so, can cause "More" rattles than before. I can look at my options at that point. Also, should the rattle worsen during the warranty period, then I am covered. Should it worsen after the 12 months, then the labor rates are going to be serious.

I did like what Econobox did and that seems more like it. Will try that.

And lastly, I live in a hot climate area and when the heat cranked up, that is when I began hearing this.

The massage was a short-term fix. The rattle has come back - the sound is very unique - it's not a buzzing and it doesn't sound plastic - it's more like 2 coins rattling against each other. Could there be something loose in the CD head unit?

Did the massage fix anything? lol

Okay, the rattle (bouncing coins sound) is happening every day now, but in the morning when the temps are cooler. In the afternoon when it's hot out, it takes a hard jolt over pavement for the noise to come back... I'm gonna have to try to take the dash apart (any tutorials on this) or take it to the dealer. The noise is loud and obnoxious now. The good thing is it's very loud (no guesswork and location can be pinpointed easier). UGH.

Most of the dash is clips or small Phillip head screws.
The stereo is held in by a hex nut behind the dash that you have to access through the glove box compartment.

Ugh... it goes away once the temps get up. So what could possibly be expanding/shrinking in size that would rattle and sound like stacked coins hitting each other?

I've actually determined that at least one of my rattles is from the vents. If I adjust the vent, the rattle stops.

One of my rattles is my visor. (The one with the mirror) I've kept it "unclicked" pretty much since I got my sub installed. But that's mainly because of bass, not so much an annoying rattle.

so not to bring this back from the dead but this morning the drivers side of my dash started to rattle (3600 miles on the car) anyone figure out what the hell is causing this? No amount of radio hides it. Happens consistently around 40-45 mph. Maybe its time to make the awr mount a permanent install not just for track days like I had planned....

try testing the rattle by sitting in place in your seat with nothing turned on and close the door. My rattle could be noticed when just doing this.

I found 2 so far by driving in silence

1. the gauge cluster hood, solved by adding a small square of packing foam between the gauge cluster bracket and hood.

2. the joint between the dash and drivers side a-pillar fixed with a small piece of black felt tucked in that seam.

also hit all the dash seams with 3M silicon spray (dance)
