Rattle in back (NOT THE CLUNK, DIFFERENT)

I have this horrible rattle in the back. It sounds like it's coming from the rear deck lid stereo area.

I took it into the dealer because it is incredible annoying since my car is less than 2 weeks old.

He informed me it was the plastic cap on my third brake light. I can't imagine that would cause the rattling.

Does anyone else have this rattle? It happens pretty consistently on even decent roads, and it annoys the piss out of me.

Anyone have any advice?

It's the piece of s*** plastic clips that hold all parts of our rear deck together. If you ever take apart your rear deck you need to be careful with these pieces.

i been getting alot of noises too, from the passenger front side door... i think its just the colder temps now. drives me nucking futs though!

I took off the three little plastic pieces on the rear deck that conceal the child seat anchors (I think that's what they are) and the rattling went down considerably.

it's the sub enclosure......Kenwood knows about it and has replacements.....my dealer ordered one and installed it and not a peep from it since.

The sub enclosure I orig had was quiet. Its the replacement in my car thats raising hell rattling.

To be fair to Kenwood, when I got home that nite I found 1 of the 4 bolts that holds in in on the trunk floor and the other on the same side not even finger tight. I put the bolt back in, tightened the other and it still rattles. I think it can be adjusted up against the deck tighter to eliminate the rattle. (its adjustable upward on the side mounts) I just havent had time to mess w/ it.

ummm, kenwood doesnt make the sub enclosure..ai research(aka qlogic)makes the enclosure..
OOPS OK, I was just going off what the dealer told me and it says Kenwood on the enclosure.

As if names on parts mean anything anymore. (Racing Hart wheels made by Enkie, MazdaSpeed muffler made by Racing Beat, Racing Beat springs made by Eibach....:D )LMAO!

Someone PM'd me about this, so I'll post the response here. Here's how I got it fixed, FINALLY:

For me it wasn't the sub, or any of the sound gear. I told the dealer this but they refused to listen.

Mine got so bad that I literally wanted to crash my car into a wall. My girlfriend was even a bit apalled at the noise. One weekend I decided to track it down and fix it myself. I noticed it was the top plastic deck lid (where the speaker grills are). I noticed it didn't quite fit right back there and the back of it had enough room to rub against the rear window. NOTE: This can all be seen/heard from inside the car not inside the trunk. Sit in the backseat, turn around, and press on various areas of the plastic deck lid until the noise is heard. For me it was on the driver's side area by the glass. Pressing it up and down would reproduce the horrible noise.

I then decided to take the deck lid off and try to reseat it. In the process I broke some of the clips and made it even worse. I then stuck some towels in between the window and the deck lid. It looked real ugly (especially since the towels were white). You could see it from outside the car, but I didn't care, it provided a cushion for the decklid against the window. The noise stopped. I took it to the dealer about a month later and just told them to take a look at the towels, and that the towels fixed the problems.

They ordered me a new decklid and installation clips for them (~$200). I told them I broke it trying to fix it, but there was certainly a problem with it before. They still covered it under warranty, and now with no towels it doesn't rattle. Took a few tries but that's what it was for me.

Now I have a small rattle in the passenger's front door, trying to figure out how I can find it.

i have that dmn passenger door rattle too
more like a vibration
damn these noises

BrianV is right, the rattling is caused by a vibration of the rear deck lid against the window. It's also caused by the center seat belt thing under the deck lid when the lid vibrates against it. To remedy the problem, I dynamatted my entire back deck.. even covered the holes where those speakers are supposed to be, even though they arent there. I think if I removed the center seat belt I could get rid of the rattle completely.. but I dunno. After I was done with the dynamat, I ported my new sub box.. which made it slam like 4 times harder... so even though I fixed the problem, it was almost as bad after I ported the new box lol. By the way, the sub being mounted to the top of the trunk has nothing to do with the rattle. No matter where the sub in the trunk is... the air will still move the same, causing the vibration/rattle.

I think the rattle on the passenger door is somewhere by the 'oh s***' handle on the door. Try pressing around that area to stop the rattle. Not really sure how to fix that one though :(

Yeah it's right by the handle. I usually just pull the handle while driving and it stops. Sometimes I pull the map pocket down below. Very annoying.

lol @ nucking futs :D

take the rear plastic deck off
take some foam sealer, squise some where the plastic lid touches the frame.......without letting dry put the lid back on
no more rattle

Dr Sound, that means spending time and money on fixing a problem that shouldn't exist.

yeah, but everytime u go to a dealer, they "cant duplicate" the rattle.

*cough* BS! *cough*
