mazda protege 2002
i have a red 2002 protege5. all that i have done to it peformance wise was just a aem sri intake and mazdaspeed axleback exhaust. i left my subs in the car and took nothing out of it. i ran 16.05 in the quater mile and my 60 ft was 2.03.

is this wrong because it seems a little quicker than normal protege's. ill get the specs up in a lil. i actually bought motor mount inserts and the udp, so i cant wait to see what i get with those installed.

Sounds like a nice run. This guy has mostly stock parts and ran about the same time. http://www.dragtimes.com/Mazda-Protege5-Timeslip-3497.html
Next time try to get into the low 15s.

Nice run, is it a factory freak or do you drive like an animal? Where abouts in NJ are you located?

damn homie... i think my wheel hop is killing me, gotta work on my launch. i ran a 16.4 and ive got some mods, but my trap speed was ebtter than that of the linked time slip...

ugh... stupid weak motor mounts... and my heavy foot on launch...

so im running mid - low 16's with a CAI and muffler. i talked to corksport and they said with j-spec cams, a header, jspec pistons and rings, and a 50-60 shot i should be in the low to mid 14's. does this sound about right?

yea but i think thats is going to cost you the same for a turbo kit, but it is alot healthier for your car.

if going with the high compression pistons which is what i believe he is being recommended, thats going to require a full engine teardown/rebuild and may end up costing more than a turbo kit install if paying a reputable shop to do the job. either way you'll need higher octane fuel with whichever route you choose.

a well-tuned turbo setup is pretty healthy for the car. a poorly tuned N/A setup could go boom as fast as a poorly tuned turbo setup. dollar to HP ratio for the most part, turbo is the way to go on this car.

i'd love to see a fully built N/A setup with a standalone on this engine. the powerband would be super smooth and i think would give a few turbo setups a run for the money.
