Rally2003's Build Thread

So after doing fore internet research I think I'm going to give this a go on my extra AWR oil pan that I have in the garage. I'll be cutting out the old flat plate baffle and installing something like this.

Will do. I have most of the stuff at home and just finishing up purchasing the 60* aluminum hinges right now. Since the inner section of the AWR pan is almost square it shouldn't be that hard to make. I'm going to see if there is a way to make it a drop in system that doesn't need to be welded into place. I'm going to probably mock it up with some plexy and some cheap hinges first and see how it works before cutting the internals of the AWR pan.

have you seen this link when it comes to baffled pans?

That is the first time that I've seen that link. His first idea is crap and final idea is better, but I think the diagonal design is better for the AWR pan configuration of where the pickuppoint is at. I think it system itself would benefit if the pickup point was in the center of the pan. Where it is now it really only stops the slopping around in 3 of the 4 dirrections. If it was in the middle, I think it would help in all for ways. On the slanted side there is no way to keep oil on that side of the pan to help with suction when turning in the opposite direction and being that are pans experience more side to side splash it would only make since to have it in the middle so it can take in equally from both sides instead of one. The extensions for AWR pan at the bottom basically just add more oil capacity. The only splash in thoughs directions are from acceleration and braking, but side to side seems to be the killer for the FS. So I might be looking into getting a different pick up tube made for a better oil pickup placement.

Why not design a pick-up that swivels? That way when you are conering hard the pick-up will move to where the oil is.

If if somehow becomes locked then I would be screwed and it would only be able to swivel from front to back.

Hopefully I'll be finishing up the wiring in the engine bay tomorrow and finally pull the Enkei's out of the box and try them on to see how much further out my fender is going to be. Speakers and radio are also on there way out. Shavin lbs.

Sweet, I have yet to mount mine as well. I know Im getting a nice tax refund so coilovers will be next in my purchases :) It needs to warm up though so you can get your CF fenders made and mounted :)

Make sure you make those fenders really sturdy though. Because I'm going to dry hump the shi#% out of your MSP this season. :D

Heh... shaving pounds with wider wheels!

Just gotta interject the opposite of a dick sucking for you sometimes. You know how it is.

Oh... and yes, I know that it's like an additional 1/4 lb for 2" wider.

Actually the wheels I have now are close to 20lbs per wheel and are only 16x7 :)
I know what you mean though.

Fun part of the day was lighting my buddies torch to find out it had a leak by the handle. Didn't know until I lit it and singed all the hair off my right hand. Could have been worse, but oh well. The old Callaway DP is off. Now I need to weld nuts to the 3 studs that are broke off outside of the housing and drill and tap the other 2 that are broke off in the housing :( FML!
All of the engine bay wires are seperated and just need re-taped and wrapped. The stereo and speakers are now all removed. Also got a chance to test fit the 17x9's on the car. THEY LOOK SICK! I'm going to go ahead and buy 275's when I get some more funding and decide from there how much more I'm going to have to extend the frent fenders. I'm going to have to make new side skits and modify the bumper as well. Can't wait to for it to get a little warmer to start with all of the molding and cf. Pics and more to come.

Can you get two nuts on the remaining part of the stud? If so, no need to weld a nut on.

Only on one of the studs. 2 of the studs stripped the threads at the last 1/8-1/4". I'm going to mess with it next weekend when I have some more time. It's going to take me a while. I'm really suprised the turbo has close to no shaft play and jusy needs cleaned up.

I have pics of one of the wheels on the car on my phone, but some reason the phone pics don't show up on here. Next weekend some time I'll take another pic of one them on the front of the car. It looks sick and will be even better when I get some meat on them. I'll try the phone pics again in a little bit.
