Rally2003's Build Thread

Nope. Not now at least. I would like them the same bronze I had my other wheels before they became anodized orange.

We had a big discussion about powdercoating lightweight wheels. Apparently it's not a good idea because of the curing/heat process. Thus why I'm rattle canning my RPF1's in the spring.

If you know the alloy and temperatures to use it's fine. Getting too hot can weaken it. SO if it's done properly it's fine.

I'm just going to leave them alone. This will be the 1st set of nice new wheels I've ever bought. I got my other track wheels cheap way back in the day from Sears when I ran them on my 1G DSM. Hopefully little Adam buys them off of me in the spring to help pay for the new eye candy :) I still can't believe these 17x9 RPF1's only weigh 16.35lbs. I'm dropping close to 4lbs per wheel and going a 1" taller and 2" wider. Winning!

I think I'm just going to get 17x7.5 for the rear and run a 225 since I can't madify the rear in SM because they consider it a structural part of the car :(

I bet you could fit a 17x8 with a 235

Hankook doesn't make a 235 for that many Rcomps, only street tires.

If the 17x9 RPF1's somehow don't work out for you let me know. When I'm done rebuilding the RX-7 the nest step is refreshing the exterior: new front/rear fenders, wheels, and paint.

Will do. The wheels should be fine with a 245 tire. It's the 275 tire that worries me.

Pffsht, when you're done rebuilding. Come now, Jon. You know you'll be wrenching for another year or two. ;) Besides, don't you already have a set of RPF1's? Your second set, haha.

Wheels just showed up at my parents house. Can't wait to try them on and see how much damage I can do :)

all you silly unoriginal kids with your rpf1's haha :P

you should be fine fitting them 275's on a 17x9, when i first bought my 17x8's they had 255's mounted on them

I'm just worried about tire rub on the frame rail, but I'll find out soon enough.

I'm not worried about the fenders. If you look under the front wheelwell and have the steering wheel turn over 1 rotation, with a 275 I have to check the clearence of the outer side of the tire for hitting not the inner. Spacers will just make the contact point for the two in the middle of the tire. I'll have to take a picture next time I'm home. It's kinda hard to explain when looking at a stock setup when the tire I want to run is over 2.5" wider.
