Radio / Speakers on CX-5 SPORT model

you could just make your own adapter cable. just get some connectors from radio shack, likely to cost about $5 in parts. Just need 4 medium male blade, 2 small female blade, and 2 medium female connectors with some shrink tubing to make it clean. Avoid using electrical tape please, it dries out and will very likely become a noise maker later on.

Keep us updated.

Ok so these spiralinstallations guys are a class act. I sent them the pictures of the speaker wire in the cx5 and they are pretty sure they have some that will work. They are going to see if they can send me the right ones. I let them know that this is actually for a cx5 so once we verify the right ones I figure they can market them as them too.

After going back and forth with the ebay seller im giving up. They are a great company dont get me wrong. The closest ones they can find to fit are gm ones but cant know for sure without seeing the female end and i dont have a touring or gt with the factory speakers up there to send them a picture of.

Im gonna cut the wires tonight and go with but crimp plugs hopefully i can get enough slack wire to work with.

Great thread, I might do this myself to see all the excitement is about. See if 2 more speakers makes a difference. Also if you are using a screw driver to pry that speaker thing up make sure you put tape on the screw driver you don't want to slip and scratch that dash to hell!

The door speakers pump about 25 watts each. After market 3.5" speakers for the dash will add 35 watts to it. Not only will it be much louder, it will have crisp highs from these small tweeters. I will be replacing all the speakers after this dash project gets resolved. The stock speakers have a very narrow sound stage. This is coming from a bose in a 2010 mazda3 though...which i know is nothing special after listening to stock infinity sets in other cars....but worlds better than our stock cx5 ones.

I dont think that this will work...

I took out the filler piece of plastic to look at the female end and took some quick cell phone shots. The adapter posted above does not have a little clip on the top that would click into place seen in this picture:

Some more pictures to see the female end...

Good luck splicing wires. I think Ill wait for the adapter to show up. Took Crutchfield two months to acknowledge the vehicle existed, I hope it wont be that long to figure out what fits.

Ok so I'm all done. I spliced the wires, used a butt connector and installed the speakers. The passenger side was the side I test fit the speakers on last week and that one went in fine. However when I did the driver side I noticed much more plastic underneath the space where the speaker magnet sits. With much force i was able to get the speaker screwed down.

The sound improvement is night and day. So much louder and i can actually hear the music when driving with the windows down at 45 mph.

Thanks, I think this is the way to go. I dont think we will be getting adapters anytime soon. Now i gotta put polks in the doors to match the dash ones. The stock ones sound so vastly different its annoying! Sure they have bass but thats about all.

Does anyone have a basic idea on how the door panel comes off?

Edit: for what its worth, crutchfield got back to me and suggested the 2012 cx7/cx9 one...but it is the same that the ebay seller sent (ford adapter) and wont work. They wont be having information on this car anytime soon. Splicing is the only way for now.

"bluemike" from Nova Scotia did it...

bluemike Quote: In order to replace the stock speakers in the doors, I carefully pryed off the door panels from the bottom to the top. They come out a lot easier when you have a little plastic fastener removal tool (basically a little fork shaped pry bar that you can buy at auto supply shops). Note that you have to remove the screw holding the door handle and screw holding the inside door release (which are also hidden behind plastic pieces). This process was very similar to removing the door panels on my old 2006 mazda6, which I found instructions for. I wouldn't have tried removing the door panels on my new cx5 without having practiced on the mazda6 first.

"nizzy", If you can post pictures of door panel removal & speaker install, it would be much appreciated. Very interesting stuff!
