I know there is a thread on this in the "common problems" section, but my question to you is who has had the radip or face plate replaced under warranty?
My stereo plays, but the display is completely blank. I tried the reset trick but it didn't do anything.
My display strarted crappng out weeks ago (the eq part won't light up), then i lost the "st", and "loud" off the bottom of the screen, now nothing.
Did Mazda send the radio out for repair or did they just give you a new (refurbished) unit ?
Thanks, I don't want to be without my radio for weeks.

You could always take the cheap way out...give it to Mazda to get serviced/replaced....drive to Circuit City, buy a Kenwood head unit.

Then when the stock head unit is back, return the one you just bought, and have Mazda reinstall the stock radio.

Would be a simple change too....it'd already be wired...just gotta plug the harness into the back of the head unit.

Happened to me too, the CD player worked, but I couldn't see the display, or control it. I just disconnected the battery for awhile to reset the computer. Fixed the problem, and it hasn't happened since, weird though.

Mine used to do that but I took it to the dealership and they ordered me a "new" one, you have to go through Mazda USA to do this I guess. My service guy is really cool. It took about 3 weeks for it to come in, but they installed it in a couple mins and its been fine since.

So you were without a radio for 3 weeks?
I wish they would just order a "new" one and take my old one when the "new" one came in. (chair)

The kenwood sucks. It looks cool and all, but when you get down to it they definately should have recalled it. I think we have all had this problem. Just disconnect the battery for 2 mins and it will be fine. If not then take it to mazda and just deal with it til they fix it. Sorry bro.

nope, they left the one in my car and ordered a new one, lucky for me the radio only acted up a couple times and the reset button always did the trick for me. i am thankful to get rid of the crappy one though .

the funny thing is mine used to act up, then i hit the dash board really hard one day... almost as a threat of whats gonna happen to it if it doesnt shape up and now it works fine.

same thing happened to me. I kept the old one until the new one arrived....got it installed and the thing looked like crap...must have been refurbished. They are ordering another new one, so hopefully this is actually NEW.

It's a warranty-covered problem. Take it in, have them order the part, keep your existing faceplate until the new one arrives, then just swap them out. Seems like the problem is just in the faceplate, not the HU. I had a Pioneer that did the same thing.
