Ractive Header Pics

according to toucan you will have to move the 2nd o2 sensor. their catback is supposed to have the place for it to go and be a true bolt on.

I would only do the o2 sensor move if your not going to get the catback also. If you are getting the catback it will have the fix in it so it would be cheaper now to use one of the MIL fixes.

If not it shouldnt be that expensive either, you will need to have a day where you can go to a shop and get them to weld in a bung for the 2nd o2 sensor. Also the hose on the sensor needs to be lengthened, replaced by a longer tube, to make it fit comfortably.

hmm..I have racing beat cat back... what would I need to remove to install ractive header?

Bijou: sounds like the cat "back" header bolts to the front of the 2nd cat - the cat back exhaust, bolts to the back of the cat...so...I think you're OK :)

Thanks!!!!:D

someone needs to install this header and take pics of the modification to the o2 sensor. i'm all confused now. i'm aggro. grrrrr.

This sounds pretty sweet. However, how will the quality of this compare to other headers? Im wondering if it would be worth the extra money to buy something that you can't order from circuit city?
Also, can someone explain to me what the hell a cel is?

from what i hear the chrome may not look all that good after a while but it will not affect the function of the header

Really depends what you are looking for. If you would buy a ractive intake or shift boot than the header is for you. If you are the kind of person who goes for the quality than maybe something else is waht you are looking for. THe chrome finish will turn a prupleish brown colour in a few weeks

I'am interested in the header but I don't want to modify anything
I just want it to bolt-on w/o a cel. If this header is one of those that I need to by this 02 simulator thing or etc.. then forget it because then i might as well go and buy a mazdaspeed header or the autoexe header. I'am still hoping that a company will come out with a header that won't need a simulator or any modification of the 02 sensor. May be greddy or skunk2 in the future? who knows but until then I guess I will have to wait.

Then your wait will be infinite. You can't expect a header to not throw a CEL. Without a header, you have a cat, and one O2 sensor goes before the cat. It sees that the exhaust coming through is "dirty", so it goes through the cat and reaches the second O2 sensor. This O2 sensor sees "cleaner" exhaust and then knows the cat is working properly.

Get a header, and bam, no more cat. Both O2 sensors register the same, and your ECU thinks your cat is malfunctioning, CEL light, limp mode... You NEED a MIL Eliminator to fool the second O2 sensor. Plain and simple, it is REQUIRED for ANY header that removes the primary cat.

Ill try to answer a few questions. first about the mods needed to be done, i dont know how I am being unclear about this but oh well.

This header will need 1 OF 2 mods so it will work WITHOUT throwing a CEL.
One mod is the MIL fix sold by 2 companies for ours cars, about 22 dollars.

The 2nd fix is to have an auto shop weld in an o2 sensor into your midpipe right behind the 2nd cat, then you plug your second 02 sensor in there and your good to go.

Now remember witht he first cat gone relocating the 02 sensor will probably only prolong the time untill you throw a CEl at which time you will need the MIL fix anyway.

My vote is do the MIL fix in a hour and never worry about it again.

As far as quality, I can only comment on the quality of their axle back exhaust as I havent seen the header in person yet, but the exhaust was perfectly machine TIG welded on the can and very nicely TIG welded on the piping and flanges. The system fit perfectly and has a great sound to it, no dyno to tell performance though.

The header appears to be nice larger tubing that is almost definately TIG welded as that is all I have seen Ractive use. Chrome may not be the best for heat and whatnot but if I wheel costs 40 to have it powdercoated then this cant be much.

by all means people go and spend 500 ont he AWr header or 750 on the AutoExe header and get maybe 1-2 more horses out of it and I will be happy with my ractive header when the order goes through.

ALSO a big thing to note here is that this iis a full tubular header that DOES NOT replace the 2nd cat, meaning if you install just this you will still at least have one cat for some emmisions control.

for an example I have a custom CAI going in the end of this month, and will be getting this header as soon as I can, then I will replace my axle back ractive exhaust witht he catback unless I can just get the midpipe. once those three major bolt on mods are done I will dyno and then start lookin at internal work.

ALSO people, alot of these questions have been answered before in other threads and whatnot, Im not asking you to go searching but to avoid a clutterfck in these threads pls feel free to PM me, or KYMP5 since he is a Ractive rep, and I will try to answer questions as best as I can. this way the thread stays cleaner

nice post. i will do my best to find out any info you all need about the ractive products. just let me know what i can do for you. As soon as the header is released i am going to place an order for some. i have a few on order now so i will get them right away after their release but i really need to know how many people will buy one so i can get them on order
