racing seat thread.

Shroths are, also they are much more comfortable and padded than those crappy sparcos. I had them in my mr2 and as long as the harness is at the proper angle I believe they are much safer than a conventional seatbelt. I even jumped a curb once about 2ft in the air hit a guardrail and spun and didnt even hit the window with my head. I was held in place nicely and had I had a conventional seatbelt on I probably would have gotten quite banged up.

mike hit on it above, in a rollover your head could get crushed without a rollbar. and main reason their illegal around here is to be properly secure you need to pull them tight and most people don't feel comfortable in them when they are adjusted properly and they just run them loose, those belts dont give so in an accident if they arnt strapped in properly youlle slam against the seat and do major muscle and tissue damage.

as far as corbeau cr1's i have the carrreras wich are basically the same thing, they are comfy, but was let down with the fabric material after two years of daily driving, the material by the bolsters has worn thru. other then that they are great.

i hate to tell you but i hardly see that DAD and sparco is the same seat with different logos... if so then i guess everyone with sparco seats just got ripped off

Just drove the Golf R32 with the Koenig seats. Nice! It's a good blend of sport and comfort. The comparable retail models are the S100 ($599) and K5000($699). They make brackets for the Protege, as well. I'm thinking of picking up the S100s in a few months...

matching interior

so which one of these brands has the better matching color to the interior of the p5s -- black/grey ??
also which one is the shortest in hieght

Well, tough call. The Konig S100 is offered in grey and black velour (also in black). I don't know how well the grey velour would match, though...
The K5000 has many other color/fabric variations.
The Recaro Sportline has a grey mesh that might be close to ours, but the seats are like $750 apiece.
I'll probably go with black on black and try to play it safe...

ya -- black/black probly is the safest -- but i have seen pics of seats that would be close -- either a black center/grey outer or a grey center/black outer -- but i havent seen any in our cars so its hard to tell how close the match is -- some of the greys look really close to the headliner and side posts -- but pictures dont capture what you would see in person --

I'll be installing my Recaro LXFs soon, and i got a universal slider from recaro too. I was checking the OE slider, and it seems to be riveted to the mount on the floor. Im curious how you guys mounted your seats? did you fabricate the mounts or did you use the OE?

sparco actually makes a bracket for the protege that has an oem seatbelt latch on it. so if you get sparcos, no worries about the bracket
Will they work on dad's though? I've been told I can make the dad's work with the stock brackets, but I still don't know how the hell to do it.

sparco makes brackets for proteges so maybe you could use on of them...
make sure to be on the safe side and measure the bolt pattern on the seat and on the brackets if you intend to get the sparcos (if it isn't a sparco brand seat). manufacturer brackets will differ from brand to brand. all brackets are NOT created equal sometimes. the bolt pattern to the floor may be the same but can be different from each company's seats regardless if the seat looks alike from topside.

Yeah, I'd like to see some proof of that. Same is a dangerous word when making product claims

Straight from DAD resellers:
"These seats amazing resemblance in both feel and looks to the Sparco Torinos..."

"These are exact replicas of the Sparco racing seats..."

well i have a sparco torino in my mp3. yeah i could have bought two dads for one sparco but the i don't trust the safety of my like in the hands of a company that says their products are "like" another. so if 600 dollars is the price for performance holding and safety, then thats what i'll pay. i guess just decide how much your life is worth when selecting brands of seats.

^ you're right. I only picked up the dad's because they were 200 for both. Very good shape from mp5jeff. I always wanted to get the sparco brackets though just in case I ever wanted to get the real deal. From what I can tell sitting in them on my floor, they seem very very nice. Material is good also. All in all a very good 200 dollar purchase, IF I can get them in my car sometime this year...

I agree with the safety-is-worth-the-cost idea. Besides, seat can be a long-term mod, even if you get a different car. I am really tempted to get just one Sparco Torino 2 (black or [black/gray]) for my Speed. It will match the rest of the interior perfectly, and I can enjoy it until I can afford the passenger side seat. In the other had, I can see myself saying "well, I can get the other seat, or I can get that 3" exhaust that I want," everytime I get the money for the second seat... Best bet is to just get both.

I picked these up for $300 CDN for the pair. They're pretty comfortable and for the price I figured what the hell.

I separated the sliders on the OEM seats so that I could use the stock brackets, and welded some flat bar across from one to the other in the locations that the bolts from the sliders on the new seats would go. You can see the front piece from this pic.

Those look nice! Got picks of the outside o the car? Looks really Canadian with the white on red. You should put a big white maple leaf on the hood. Ha. j/k, hockey fan...

i have one sparco torino black and grey. i repainted my interior peices mercedes silver instead of the off silver that matches my shift knob, gauge rings and tv... looks pretty cool. we added some deadener in the the paint to give it a matt finish even with the protectant of clear coat. its pretty cool.
