racing a cavalier/sunfire

They'll probably fall apart before you get to the finish line, so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Anyway race one and find out, there's no shame in losing a race. Even if it is to a cavalier.

I test drove one before I got the MP3....they SUCK. They're gross to even sit in. I hate the sound, the way it feels, everything...we'd win just on looks!

All I can say who cares who will win. One cannot compare a Pro5 to a Cavalier/Sunfire. Were talking apples and oranges. Let me take that back, apples and dog s***!

I had a 2000 Cavalier and it was was pretty pokey. It was the base engine...maybe 120 - 130 horsepower I think. I know a P5 would beat it.

If the cavalier is a 5spd and has a good driver, it will probably be a pretty close race. For my company car that the gov't gives me, I drive a 95 cavalier with the 2.2L motor. It's the biggest POS, but if I powerbrake the automatic and shift the automatic through the gears, it is fairly fast and will blow away plenty of ricers.

As said above, the Protege doesn't even compare to the Cavalier. I drive one because the gov't picks up the insurance and pays for the gas and keeps the wear and tear off of my Protege.

I owned a '97 Cavalier Z24 a few years back....it had a 150hp 2.4L and it's pretty quick for a 4cyl. It would definitely smoke my P5....but overall I love my P5

I had one.

I rased one . I beet one.
If its the quad four you might have a problem.(Z24)
But the rs is easy...

Good point!
I'm not much of a racer anyways..I prefer just cruising around in this car. Was just curious if anyone tried.

Cavalier/Sunfire in my rear view

I've got an '02 P5 in automatic and the other day, I raced a cavalier and a sunfire from light to light, but it was a pretty long distance. If you're wondering, I was near a GM dealership.

Anyhow, my car is automatic and theirs were manual. I went through the gears in auto and blew them away. I had a good 1.5 car lead off the line.

Rememer, they might have 140 HP, but they also have several tons of weight and bad throttle response.

With an older Z24 with 150HP, you'll have problems though. Just do intake and full exhaust and you're talking about 15-20HP gain, so you'll be able to blow away almost any of the newer compact cars.

that's IMO

I drove an ecotec (2.2 DOHC 4, the new engine), and I thought it blew the Mazda FS 2.0 out of the water for acceleration. The rest of the Cavalier sucks, but the Ecotec feels a lot torquier than the Mazda engine, and it's surprinsingly quiet.

I'd think in a straight line the cavalier would win, drivers being equal, up untill you get up to highway speeds since 5th on Cavaliers is way overdriven. Of course in the corners it would be different, and the Cavalier has terrible brakes too

Also I doubt there is much of a weight difference.
