Quick Oil Question

My '05 has the new filter cartridge system. Visually confirmed.

hope this isnt thread jacking, this is still an oil question, but i want your opinions. I hear a lot of good about synthetic oil, but my cousin (a well educated car guy) says it is only good for lasting longer. He says it my free up 1-3 hp, but it still gets dirty as fast as normal oil, and nothing is better than regular oil changed every 3000 miles.....opinions?

i personally don't use anything but synthetic. i had it in my 2000 focus which is known for being a piece of crap and it never had any mechanical break down. oh and i drove it like i got it for free.

I learned a lot about synthetic oil from this ebook. Syn oil has a lot of advantages. Take a look at this PDF. It's long, but you can skip to the most interesting parts.

I think he means "new cartridge" on the Mazda3 as opposed to "old spin-on" on 99.9% of other cars on the road.

I used AMSoil 5w-40. because thats what my focus called for. it was around 5 dollars a quart but well worth it.
