2003.5 Blazin' Yellow Mazdaspeed Protege
I have about 16k miles on my MSP 2003.5. I am starting to notice when my car is idling, whether when its warming up, cooling down or i'm just sitting in it when ever, it seems to bog down for a couple seconds then shake, than return to normal. The Tac is between 1 and 2, but when it bogs down and shakes it goes under 1 to just a 1/2, recently i have noticed it happening a lot more.

what do u guys think??

another question.... they dude at mazda service dept said while running sinthetic oil, i don't need to change the oil untill 7k miles?

what do u guys think about that??

Every Protege "suffers" from that idle issue. It's the automatic idle control doing it's thing.. No worries.

As far as the synthetic... Maybe on a naturally aspirated car but not on a turbo, although I have done that once due to not having cash. Next time you change your oil, notice it's color when you first put it in.. Then check it after 1000 miles. Then check it again at 2000 miles an so on.. You'll see it becoming a "dirtier" color. That's no bueno.

The idle control may be dropping down too far before it catches itself. I know that the dropping RPM thing is a Protege thing but none of the MSPs or Proteges I've driven have dropped so low it shakes for a second or two. I'd say it's up to you if you wanna check it out or not. If you're concerned, I'd take it in before you start getting deep in modding the car..

My car does that too....always has. A little shake...the rpms drop, and then it "catches" itself and returns to normal. Never seems to ever be a problem though.
