Questions...

Hello all,

I am thinking of staying N/A...and modifying the car...slightly...well, one bit at a time...

I have...

Intake (custom CAI)
RocketZ axleback...(sounds great, just too loud)

I am thinking of doing the following...

Header (Thinking of going with either the TSUDO or the VIBRANT/OBX cheapest I can afford right now...) Actually, the Vibrant and OBX are still too expensive ($500.00-$600.00 in Vancouver Canada) so, I think the 4-1 Tsudo is the one...
Exhaust (Thinking of going with the Magnaflow...not too loud - I have kids in the car on a regular basis - not too expensive...but only 2.25" ID...)

Eventually...

P&P head
P&P IM/change the IM
Larger TB
Cam (s)
Valve Springs (not sure if the stocks would be able to take higher RPM's)
Cam Gears
Piggyback ECU (want to raise the RPM limiter to 7500- I know that if I want to do this, I should get a 4-2-1 header as it will net me higher gains at top end but this is a looooooong way away.)
UDP

That is about all I'd want to do to the car to keep it driveable on a daily basis.

My question for now is...

Should I go with the Magnaflow exhaust which is Mandrel-bent 2.25" ID or should I just go straight for a 2.5" ID exhaust system.

What kind of gains am I going to see from a 2.25" ID system like the Magnaflow as opposed to a 2.5" Mandrel-bent system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Magnaflow is good stuff, but there are a lot of systems out there. If you want it fairly quiet with a bit of performance, get the Racing Beat, everybody loves it. If you want it loud and deep with a bit of performance, get the Greddy Evo2, some of us love it. Pretty much every system will have similar gains (nothing great, maybe 5hp), so it's more how you want it to look and sound.

if you're doing lots of mods, 2.5" OD with 1.6mm or 2mm walls is the way to go. after the header (if correctly designed), no power is gained from the exhaust, only power lost

cheapest <> best

so header+catless midpipe+catback is not a good combo for a NA car? i never dynod my car, so i have no idea

peace

get the right header and behind it doesnt matter. however if you dont have the money for the perfect header, you must get the full system

LX, it's a fine combo, just make sure the pipe isn't too big, more flow = less backpressure = less torque.

iracemine, full magnaflow systems are good, and relatively cheap. Walmart should be destroyed by hippies.

Magnaflow it is... tx for your help guys...as for the header...it gonna have to wait...rather save my $$ for da kidz.

My previous car...a neon...yah, yah...I had CAI, P&P and shaved head with mid(aggression) cam, Cam gear, shorty header, full custom exaust from the header-back..2.5" ID with highflow cat (aluminized steel, w/ crush bends) and that made a HUGE difference in the way the car drove.

Car was doing high 14's low 15's on a regular basis...
I won't be going that aggressive again for a while so I think the Magnaflow will be a good start...from what I hear the Racing Beat is fairly expensive so that's outta my reach...Priorities...

Thing is that getting a muffler by itself its about $300-$400 CAD...(Axle-back) and I can get the full MagnaFlow kit for $400.00 CAD.

N E one near Vancouver Canada w/o kids want to buy my Rocketz? Sounds bitchin'...

I know, I know...F/S board... here I come.

Thanks all.

*sigh*

do we have to go over this uber common misconception???

backpressure is EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!! any amount of backpressure is EVIL!!!!!!!!!!! what you're talking about is exhaust velocity. you want an exhaust ID to be JUST big enough to flow as much exhaust gases as you are going to produce. any bigger and the exhaust wont flow as much, thus losing power. too small and you'll get backpressure at high rpm, but gain power down low

NA = velocity.

since i've installed the catless midpipe, i have noticed that my acceleration is more smooth, but some times it feels like i lost power "sigh" paranoid lol

peace

BTW i still think RB catback is one of the best exhausts to go with NA

Coffee can...I'll see if I can post a pic...Sounds good too...nice DEEP rumble...and @ high RPM's 5800-6800 it quiets down so you can hear the intake...werd but very cool...

Great explanation...I tried to explain this to an exhaust shop since I asked them to build me a 2.5" exhaust system for my old car and they said that it would be a waste of time to do so as the 2.0L needed no more than 2.25" for the exhaust to flow properly...unfortuantely for them, they didn't listen to my request/explanation and I took my business elsewhere...(yupnope)

Is that red trim between your rims & tires? If it is, I had some blue like that on another car back in the day & haven't seen that for quite awhile. Cool

where can u get red trim like that. i think it would look neat on my painted black stock rims.

Yes it would. If it's the same stuff I had it just pushes in between the tire & rim. Not sure where you might run accross that these days. Can't remember where I got it, that was 10 - 15 years ago when I had it.

i think an autoparts store, pepboys, ive seen striping over there.

Its paint on the wheels' outer rim. They came like that. I kinda want to get rid of it. Am planning on powedercoating the wheels a dark Bronze.

Not sure yet though...I want to find some 16X7.5's and If I do, I'll sell these instead.

But back to the thread...

NA Tech...uhnn....yeah, I got another muffler insatlled yesterday.

Muffler $29, Tip $25, Paint and Install, $90. Sounds deep, yet eerily quiet.
