Question - Switch Blank Removal

Does anyone have a way to remove the switch blank to the right of the DSC button in the 2010 3? I removed the fuse access plate, but I can't get my hand in the hole to push the blank out from the back. I am looking to install a momentary switch in the blanbk for my garage door opener. The picture below shows the blank to the right of the DSC button...

There is a clip at the top and the bottom of the switch blank. I have mine out right now. However, I took the whole cover off to get at it. There are four plastic clips molded into the cover. You have to pull quite hard to get it off, but it does come off and non of the crappy metal clips to worry about - it is all one piece.

How did you get to the back of the blank to get it out? What/how cover did you take off? I have tried to get to it thru the fuse access door, but my hand is too big.

I pulled the entire trim piece off - the silver piece. Four clips on it (one in each corner), you have to be able to get under there and pull very hard. I set of plastic "trim tools" or something that can get you under that trim piece without scratching it or the dash up is key. I don't think you can reach that piece without taking the trim off - no way to get to the top and bottom clips to release just the switch blank.

You'll also have to modify the switch blank a bit once it is out. The part you see is a cover over a piece that is molded to mimic whatever switch was originally designed there, so you need to drill a hole through the backside or just cut off the end (which will not affect how it clips in). I'm thinking of putting a switch or buttons in there as well. You have a great idea.

I removed the nut that holds the fuses in place and pushed it back out of the way. Then I could easy reach my hand in there. I used the space to mount my Passport remote/mute button thing.
