Question about what to do/setup

I've been looking into doing a multimedia setup in my car and it seems like a lot of the mobile video HU's that are around $1500 or less tend to focus more on video features than sound quality. I really want to get a motorized in-dash monitor but I want to make sure that it os detachable. So what I was thinking about doing was getting a nice quality CD HU and getting a nice in-dash monitor/DVD player to go along with it.

What I had in mind was doing the Pioneer Premier DEH-P8MP which I can get for about $300 and doing the matching in-dash DVD player with a 6.5" monitor which I can get for about $700. Now I am assuming that I will be able to hook both of these up in parallel and according the the Pioneer website I will be able to control the DEH-P8MP through the AVX-P8DVD which is the matching in-dash.

Here are the specs on both, not too sure if this set up would be considered good because a lot of the better in-dash HU's cost into the $2000 price range to get the features I think I need.

I'm not sure about the control of one unit from the other.
Both are good units.
For that price its certainly hard to beat. For a retail to retail price, I think the Alpine IVA-D300 will do everything you need, plus it can be combined with the PXA-H701 for the ultimate in eq-ing.

What features are you looking for?

I looked at the Alpine but it was ugly as sin (so sue me if I go for looks too). I like the 6.5v pre-outs, the only downside to the pioneer is the fact that if I wanted to go 5.1 I couldn't because their surround processor isn't avalible.

What head-unit would be a direct replacement for the MSP one?
If you mean in terms of not having to rewire the harness, then most any current kenwood. Anthing with video or an outboard processor nullifies that though.

Other then that, any basic headunit other then a kenwood should only take an extra 20 minuts to install as all you need to do is cut off the kenwood side of the wiring harness and crimp on the new units harness. Very easily done outside of the car. I can do an MSP head unit swap in under a 1/2 hour to damn near any other brand of unit. I just need some butt connectors and tape.
