question about weird shifting

so my previous car was a 350z and I know there is less linkage/play in a rwd car because the tranny is closer to the stick, but my speed feels weird when I shift and I keep hitting the gates inbetween the gears when I shift (ie the wall right between 3rd and 5th when shifting to 5th or the one between 4th and 6th when shifting to 6th) I've been driving manual transmissions for over 10 years, so it's not like I don't know how to shift one. is that just an inherant trait in our cars? will the short throw shifter with the upgraded bushings do anything to fix that?

I think it's just a "play" problem.

i don't have much trouble with it... but the one thing all the reviews said was that the shifter was the biggest weak point. You'll get used to it, and I've heard the twm shifter base bushings help a lot.

I'm waiting for cobbs short throw shifter though, adjustable = good.

shifts to 1-4 don't give me a problem. just 5th and 6th. it's strange.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with shifting issues... lol

I'm OK with 1-5...its 6th that I'm having issues with... LOL
Driven 5 speeds my whole life...

rear motor mount is supposed to help. I'll find out in 2 wks or so

yeah now that I think about it, the rear mount might help. it is happens a lot more under heavy acceleration.
