Question about my Limited Slip

Hey, what's up guys?

I've been on the board about 4 years one and always learning some great info. I use my speed primarily as my daily driver and last summer started doing autocross events and entered one HPDE day at Poconos which was awesome. Consistently was able to hang with the big boys in the infields, but would get beat pretty good on the straights....I guess that's part of the deal when you own one of these cars. So far my mods have been limited as I'm in grad school for immunology. I've done short shift, Sparco seat, head unit, and some R compound tires and thats about it.

Now for my question. During the past two years, I've noticed my limited slip not really working properly. If I accelerate hard off the line, the tires will break traction really easily especially in the wet. So much that I thought the LS wasn't working. It snowed recently and I took the opportunity to test it. One tires spins, with the other making a weak effort and essentially not turning, it never really locks ever.

This seems odd as I thought we had gear driven LSD's which either work or don't work. I didn't think they could wear out. So, what gives?

My car just turned 77k, and will likely do a clutch this summer. Am I looking at a big bill for my LSD as well?

What could the be the issue?

This board rocks, all info is greatly appreciated.

depends on what a big bill in your eyes is and which LSD you go with. I believe theres 3 or 4. oem, welded, quaife, and m factory. Someone will correct me if im wrong.

edit: I believe that your lsd is still working. Wait for it to go BOOM. Then it won't be working.

Go with the Mfactory, it would be cheaper if you do it the same time as the clutch.

I can't comment on the function of the LSD, but I will say that if you can afford it then go with the MFactory when you replace the clutch. If you plan on continuing AutoX your factory LSD WILL break very soon and you'll be stuck having to pay for the same amount of labor again. Crossover can supply you with everything you need for the install, hell maybe they can even hook you up with a deal if you purchase a clutch/flywheel/LSD combo.

P.S. Could I hire you to raise some anti-bodies for me? I'm also a grad student but in Molecular Biology at UOregon. I'm guessing you're attending Columbia?

It either works or it doesnt. there is no in between. Someone could have replaced the LSD with a open diff if it was broke in the past and they didnt want to pay for a LSD....
