Ques on '02 MP5 alarm ... newbie

To arm the immobilizer you just push the lock button on the remote.. the procedure you are going through is enabling the valet mode if I recall correctly.

So I just bought a 2003 P5 the other day and I noticed that it came with the factory immobilizer. Unfortunately, I noticed this after it had already immobilized my car. The dealer forgot to mention that when i picked it up so i was stuck with a car that wouldn't start until i got a hold of him.

To disarm the security feature, I ended up having to turn the key to ON then press this button on a wire, then back to LOCK, then start the car. (or something along those lines). The trouble is that I don't know why the security system decided to enable itself all of a sudden, the last 2 days it wasn't enabled. I have no documentation on the security system at all. Is there any info out on the net or on this board (i looked but didn't see anything), or am i going to have to pay a mazda dealership a visit?

FYI, i looked under the dash and found that the button on the wire was attached to a box labelled "Starter Kit Unit" with product id being "SPAV06" and there is a small red LED on the steering wheel shaft before the dash (flashing apparently means it is enabled). I have not had any luck searching for this on the net so far. The instructions above look like they are just for adding (or removing) fobs, but do not deal with the security system itself. Any additional info on this would be of great help. Thanks all.

Pat

there is NO factory immobilizer and there's only an add-on alarm kit from mazda which does come with an immobilizer but does NOT involve any button presses to start the car other than disarming the system (unlock the doors)

By factory, I meant mazda addon, sorry for the confusion. I'm having second thoughts about whether or not this alarm system is from the mazda dealership. I read about the mazda immobilizer and this sounded like the same thing, especially when the other guy was talking about the small red light on the steering shaft. The lock/unlock buttons on the key fob definitely do not interact with the alarm system. There is no seperate alarm system remote so that button on the wire is the only interface I have with the system.

Kansei: I'm not sure what you mean by valet mode. The procedure I described will disable my starter rendering the car "immobilized", that is until the procedure is performed again. Unless by valet mode you mean "trick the valet" mode :)

Good news ... at least for me

Hey, I'm the original poster (or is that poser?) and wanted to say I got the bugger working. It turned out to be a end-user communication error ... that is, my daughter didn't know what the hell she was saying or doing. I got the thing programmed in all of 3 minutes when I finally got my hands on the car this past week. Works like a charm.

Thanks for all the help.
