Quad or Twin T/B Setups....?

Hey everyone,
My girlfriend and I am planning the next few mods for her MP3 and so far she wants to go turbo. For my car(mirage/lancer) a company called RPW based in Australia makes quad and twin throttle body set ups. The Quad requires a piggy-back computer mod as well as fuel system upgrades (easy, just snag parts from a junked eclipse for me). The Quads run about $1,200 + fuel system mods. The twin, on the other hand doesn't require too much work to the fuel system or computers, and it gives great results. Is anyone in the Mazda world toying with this idea.....I am thinking that for the price of a turbo for the MP3 you could get the twin t/b set up, headers and a few fuel/afc mods and still reach almost the same HP, plus there is no Lag and is easier on the engine for a Daily Driver... What do you think? Anyone think of this??

I see what you're saying, but I highly doubt you'd reach the same HP on that setup as you would going with forced induction. With NA setups, you will reach a plateau fairly quickly, where as with Turbo, you'll have the ability to keep building and certainly won't cost as much. You might be able to, but it certainly won't be for the same amount of money. Turboing an NA motor isn't as bad as some may think it is as long as you running low to moderate boost. If you bump up the boost however you will need to address the fueling issues and definately the rods since those are what usually will eat it first.

The individual throttle bodies setup is great for power, but not ideal for daily driving due to its lack of filtering capabilites. It's also extremely loud. But hell, at least you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you'll be one of the few MP3's in the country running that setup.

word...I understand what your saying. I was just tossing out an idea. Check this out: From the Mirage Message Board...

"Once qauds are tuned correctly they never go out of tune. We manafacture our qauds with a fixed shaft so you don't have to individually tune each cylinder or worry about a cylinder going out of balance.
As long as the car is dyno'ed properly, you get the qauds fitted with the mods you wish, tune the car. Drive it for a month and note all the little things that you want sorted out Ie at this rpm its a little flat, hard starting under these conditions etc.
Then go back and get them to adjust the computer settings to sort the little problems out and you are on your way.
Fitment is really easy, swap the manifold over to the new qaud manifold.
We are finishing off another set of Mirage 1.5 qauds for a USA customer now and a set of V6 Six Pack throttle bodies for an eclipse now as well.
I am also fititng a set of qauds to a Hyundai SOHC Excell equiv to the Mirage 1.5 and I will let everyone know how it went."

If you are to stick with NA, I personally give you props as ot takes a lot of dedication to stay NA and fight off the boost bug. All the BTCC cars are based off of 2.0 liter power plants and some are pushing 300HP NA. Of course, those are also manufacturer backed race teams who have hundreds of thousand of dollars to spend on tuning and R&D. Good luck on the individual setup.

Oh yeah, I wonder if you can pass smop with that. hehe

I'm kidding of course.

haha, I doubt you'd be able to pass anything with them on....lol The noise from these must be indredible though. I doubt anyone makes these for Retail sales for the MP3, but I am sure, as APEXistud said, that racing teams are using these on similar 4 cyl n/a engines. It's just an idea... We are going to start planning the turbo for her car.....The "boost bug" has been leached onto me for over a year now...lol
