Purchasing a CX-9

And you just reminded me of the one annoying person who always insists he's right no matter what :)

Again, no offense. I'm not disputing what you are saying. I have the CX-9, and I drove it last year in snow. Not once did I slide around.

I guess my world is different from your world then. Would seem like so, since the UAW workers in Detroit are still living in a dreamworld demanding high wages and top notch healthcare and benefits.

I'll post back on my realworld experience in year 2 of snow season then ;)

Just to add my own 2 cents on this.

I find that the "snow" traction on the duellers is ok for an all-season radial, however it's the actual "ice" traction that is horrible. There is a difference between snow and ice traction with some tires.

We are however going a little off-topic.

Let me get this passive agressive abortion back on track :p

Anyone think $27000 is a good sticking price on a 09 CX-9 touring (not Grand touring) with no options?
Too low / unrealistic?
Just want the Tan leather and heated seats.
I don't really need anything else.
I would like the sunroof but I don't care for the Bose.
I will make them throw in the floor mats/mudguards.

That's less than we paid for our Sport 2 years ago.

Oh..
Well MSRP is 33,600, Invoice around $30,000.
- $1000 because I rule (holdbacks, and stuff)
another -$1000 for the ongoing rebate.
Maybe another -$1000 because Jesus loves me? (deadhorse

Sounds good to me, that vehicle goes for about $43,000 CDN up here. :D

In December we were offered an 08 Touring with moonroof & upgraded stereo for $24-$25k. We ended up with an 08 Sport for $22,300.

Oh, I'm sure Jesus loves you, but remember, all he ever drove was a donkey. (silly)

But seriously, that sounds like a good deal for a Touring. One dealer here on Long Island just today offered me a "super deal" (her words, not mine) on a 2009 Sport for the same $27,000. (I think hers may have the moonroof, which I don't want.)

Fortunately, another dealer will sell me a Sport with pre-installed heated/power seats for a much more reasonable $25,700.
The CarsDirect.com price is $25,847, no installed options.
Invoice $29,200 (w/o options)

Hey, how does that $25,700 price sound to you other Sport owners out there?

in shopping some dealers today one mentioned that there is a $3500 rebate on all 2009 CX9s or there is the advertised 2.9% financing +1000 rebate.

Then they offered a price of $30,000 or a car with a $33,700 MSRP.
That includes the rebate.

I asked the sales guy if he really thought $200 under MSRP was going to get me to drive 30 miles to even look at this thing.

So if the msrp is $33,700 for what I want and invoice is $31ish
So lets say $31500 buying price -$3500 rebate = $28,000/
Still want to be at $27000 or lower.

It says it takes rebates into account but does it say anywhere which ones or list them?
Be nice to know if they are using the $1000 or $3500

Still want to be at $27000 or lower.

Get the loan from your bank or credit union. Have a check for $27,000 and tell them that they can have the check and you drive off the lot with the vehicle or you drive off and go someplace else.

There was a $1000.00 Mazda loyalty and a $3500.00 Mazda incentive last month.

Bottom line if you show up with a check in your hand. Don't give them a chance to slick talk you into something that you don't want.

can you verify that $3500 on09s?
Its not mentioned on any website I can find.

i had thought it was on mazdausa.com -but was wrong after i just checked it. we did get a print-out from the dealership showing all the dealership engagement (i think that was what they were calling it) which showed we could get 3500 dollars off or the 0% financing x36mo. with 1000 dollar cash back....

you might want to just go to the dealership and inquire about that - they printed a sheet of paper out from mazda that had all the different rebates/incentives for all mazda vehicles...

hope that helps.

I believe the loyalty was for a mazda6 only ...

i think 25,700 sounds reasonable - the local dealer was offering the sport for 25,688 - so when we looked and didn't find a specific sport trim we liked and opted for the GT, they took into account the discount they were going to give off a sport model and applied it to the GT and then some (after a big of haggling)...

so i think given that the dealer has thrown in heated/power seats for the same price, i think it'd be reasonable - i always think that once the price has somewhat solidified and they think you're about to enter a deal, that is the perfect time to hem/haw, delay - and then ask for options like clear bra or other accesories at cost....by then, they've put in the effort to sell you a car...placing on a clear bra may cost you $500 on the outside, but a dealer's cost is significantly lower - so asking them to throw in options like this that their service dept can install for you is a win-win situation --they sell you a car and you get freebies...

Thanks, much Wontonjon -- that's very reassuring, and we think alike. I'm definitely going to haggle for free Sirius, or cargo cover/net, remote engine start or something like that. (2thumbs)
I've never even looked into the clear bras for any vehicles I've had before. Is there something about CX-9 paint tendency for chipping or something that makes that a more desirable "must-have."?

Also, tell me what you think of the legroom in the 2nd and 3rd row seats. I know they can adjust fore and aft, but the little time I spent in them they still seemed tight no matter what.
Of course, I compared them to the voluminous Traverse, so maybe nothing has that much room!

All of you guys are getting much better deals on CX9s than we were able to. One benefit of a struggling economy. You're getting loaded GTs for the same or less than our Sport was when they first came out.

The paint will chip, but no more than any other car. I've been considering a soft bra just for when we travel. Then it would stay off the rest of the time.

The leg room is not bad. I am 6' tall and can comfortably sit in every position, even with the seat ahead of me also adjusted for my comfort. When the second row is all the way back, the third row is a bit tight for me, but doable for a short trip. Setting the middle row to the center detent make the third row AND middle row comfortable for me. Mazda understands something that other car makers don't seem to. It's not just the distance between the front of the seat cushion and the back of the next seat (legroom) that determines comfort. It's also the seating position. I've sat in many other cars that have more 'legroom' that aren't nearly as comfortable.

When looking at 3-row SUVs, the very first thing I did with all of them was operate the seat folding system and get in the back. The CX9 easily won that comparison, even over the GMs. The problem with those wasn't so much the legroom, but the GM standard too-soft seating, and the fact that the overly complex 'flip and tumble' mechanism didn't work. I never could get the middle seat cushion to re-latch because of the sloppy construction.

Anyway, the only reason I can't ride in the back seat of a CX9 is because the drivers seat is a lot more fun. So enjoy.

what i've actually done to "test out the leg room" is to sit as i would normally in the driver's position, then hop out and sit behind in the 2nd row -adjust like i would normally sit, and then try to fit in the 3rd row. i fit comfortably in the 1st and 2nd rows, not so much in the third. however, my wife who's 5'8" fits in the last row in this seating position. i'm sure that the last row wouldn't be terribly comfortable for cross country road trips but she told me she'd feel comfortable riding around for an hour or so in the last row.

with regard to the clear bra - i thought i'd be worthwhile if they were going to do it for free - simply b/c it likes to snow just enough here in colorado springs for the sand trucks to come out and spray a bunch of rocks/sand on the road -which then gets kicked up by every single vehicle around. my 9 year old bmw has many little rock chips but they're typically not visible due to the paint color (silver). with the new cx-9 being black...i thought i'd be wise -especially if i got them to throw it in for free...
dealer actually put on the clear bra, but i didn't feel like the quality was up to par so they took it to the local automotive car stereo/tint/etc. place and paid 550.00 to have them redo it...when it came time to close on the deal, they came back with the agreed price plus the dealership handling fee. to make a long story short, we walked away b/c they "couldn't" deduct the handling fee...and came back the next day after they buckled...then bought it. i figure in this economy, we can afford to walk away from a deal and hope they buckle and call back....

good luck with your purchase!!!

Yep, right about the deals. It pays to have money set aside to be able to take advantage of times like these (not that I wish bad times on our nation or anyone).
Only thing I have to worry about is if I buy this month, will the rebates go even higher next month?
But I've played that scenario out long enough. I remember when I first started looking at CUV's that I liked the 9, but at the time it seemed to be priced higher than the Traverse, so it did not make my short list. A few months later, and I'm getting a deal that Chevy can't touch. At least for the Sport. Touring prices are about the same as comparable Traverse -- although the standard leather gives Touring a slight edge, for those who want it (unlike me).

Thanks for your views on the paint and the seats. I'm not too worried on the seating legroom. For one thing, like you, I'll either be driving, or riding shotgun. Also, I think we didn't really learn how best to adjust them in the brief time we checked them out.

Well, with some luck I may have my 9 real soon!
If I can stand to part with my beloved '99 Hyundai. lol
Speaking of which, if anyone has tips on how they handled the trade-in part of the deal, I'm all ears.

I noticed the rebate + financing offer got better today.
It went from 2.9% + $1000 to 2.9%+ $1500.
Anyone know if they increased past the plan $3500 rebate?
