Puppy to the vet. Scary day for me...

I've never been so freaked out....

My puppy, named Pimg (17 month old German Shepherd) was spayed on Friday and has been doing really great to date. She's probably been a lot too active, but it's hard to keep her down- she's got SO much energy.

She was laying on the tile tonight and I looked over at her because she was kinda moaning a bit. I went over to investigate and there was blood on the tile. I admit- not a lot... but when I looked at the incision- it was 100% open. Wow. Freaked. I called the vet, let them know I was coming, and drove as fast as I could without upsetting her too much.

Would I have stopped had a cop tried to pull me over? I have to say, probably not. Luckily, the vet is only about 5mins away from my house driving relatively normal...

She is now at the vet, and the poor puppy was terrified to go into the holding cage. They literally had to pick all 75lbs of her, kicking and moaning, into the cage. She is going to have surgery in a couple mins or so, and should be done around 2-3am. This time, she's gonna stay overnight.

Tonight I realized (more-so confirmed) how much that pup means to me...

Man, I love that dog!

(her name is pronounced- "pimp" without the last t, and then "gee" ...like this- "pim-gee")

im glad everything went great.

i think its pretty funny that pimgee sounds like cock in spanish lol

Sounds like she'll be fine...hang in there man! I can empathize completely...been in a similar situation and what hurt the most was leaving the vet's office hearing my 6 month old at the time, howling and crying in the backround. I have a beagle...so you can imagine the lungs on the him.

no worries man i'm sure she'll be alright. i feel ya man. when my dog(3/4 german shepherd and 1/4 siberian husky) ran away about like 7 months after getting her, we found her a few days later and she was bleeding all over her chest and legs. was kinda tramatic seeing all that blood being that i was like only 8 lol. we took her to the vet and they patched her up really well. xD shes still kickin today after 10 yrs hehe. o snap i gotta go feed her today hehe lol. too addicted to the forums ><

Thanks everyone for the kind words! Now, if I could only get a phonecall from the vet saying everything went ok...

Wow, I am so not ready for kids...

Just heard back from the vet. All is good... She had a slight fever, but it didn't appear that any infection had set in. The stitches came out all the way into the 2nd layer (he explained three layer- outer, middle, muscle- in way more technical terms). They stitched her up and put some more stitches on the middle and outside layer. I get to pick her up in 4.5 hours.... YEAH!!

thats good to hear everything is all good xD wow thats kinda deep cut yea. do ya know what it was from? ya should make sure that it wont happen again if theres something sharp laying around.

do ya know what it was from?

Yeah, she was spayed... It's from the surgery.

She came home today from the vet!! So, I am relieved and quite happy! I took a vacation day to hang out with her today. Thanks guys for your support!

german shepherds are some of the best dogs in the world. I had one growing up and I loved her to pieces. good luck with your (not so) little girl :)

German Shepherds are teh_awesome. I have a mix -- German Shep' and something else. I'm not exactly sure what. The adoption agency SAID Siberian Husky when I got her at 8 weeks old, but since she's almost three years (holy s***, time flies!) and only 35 pounds, I think it must be something tiny. Maybe one of those Mini-Huskies? I dunno.

Anyway, did the vet give you any reason as to why all the stitches came out?

glad she's ok! Spaying is much more scary than nuetering as it is more invasive...

Well, I probably didn't do as good of a job restraining her as I should have. She showed no sign of pain, so we were playing a bit too much, I think. As much as I want to blame it on the vet (when I took her home the first time, she had about 4 stitches for the 3 in cut- she now has 11) I am sure it is probably my fault. Live and learn, I guess. I took a vacation day today so that I could be with her and keep her calm this time around.

That is no joke!!

The very best, my friend!! (first)

What a pretty baby! Glad her surgery to fix the open incision went well.

And when the vet tells you to limit their activity - they mean it! Do you have a crate/kennel for her? I've found that is really effective when they've had surgery (and for a safe "den" for them too) - they can get up, turn around, and rest...

That's exactly what I had to use when Mia was spayed. I mean, she's always loved her crate -- she never had to be 'crate-trained' like some dogs -- but I made sure to keep her in it more than usual while she was healing from the spay. Cause when they're puppies .. there really isn't any better way to make SURE they stay still.

I do actually. Great suggestion!
