Pull and Dis-assemble my Transmission!?!

I've had an occasional hitch in first gear, so i stopped by the dealer a few months ago. I heard back from them on friday....

they talked to mazda corporate and have agreed they want to pull my tranny completely dis-assemble it and see if they need to order new parts. if so, order those parts (from japan) ship them, replace old parts with the new ones, re-assemble my tranny, then put it back in my car...

why would it be weeks. shouldn't be more than a week if the shop is good. First day dissasembly, figure out what's wrong, order parts should be there within a week depending on where they are coming from, then one day to reassemble.
