2002 Protege ES
Just got my 2002 Maroon protege ES 2 days ago. I LOVE it. I still need to install a keyless entry and both rear speakers ( don't ask me why those are gone). But I love the car. Of course, it is a majior step up from an '87 Nissan sentra (hatchback). When I push on the gas, my car actually goes.:)

Now Me, and two of my sisters have mazda proteges. Gotta love the protege.

woOT!!! welcome to the forms!

You should have the 2.0 FS in there.. lots of parts for modding my friend.

Yes, proteges do rock (headbang)

I have stock front and rear speakers for sale if you're interested.

On a more personal note, the Proteges are pretty sweet. One of the things I like the most is the way the steering wheel (together with the dash) and shifter are positioned with respect to the driver. I have driven a number of cars and the seating position in the Protege is the most comfortable, and I'm a tall guy--about 6'4".

Peace out.

You probally already have keyless entry, you just need a mazda key fob.
And the ES's only had speakers in the front doors + rear deck... so you're only missing one set!

Welcome to the forums! :)

Yup, you'll find the keyless entry control module under the back decklid so you'll need to just get the key fob and program it yourself. I found that out when I went to replace my rear speakers - dealer never told me it had keyless entry (probably explains why i didn't get a key fob) lol.

nice to see in a sea of people so often complaining / selling thier cars / etc a positive "go protege" post :D it really does make my day a happier one

welcome aboard!

I've had mine for a week now, and it still continues to impress me. A little background, I've been driving my 97 Civic EX since about 2001 and racked the odometer up to 187k. Around 170k I swapped a JDM Integra GS-R motor into it...and though the Mazda isn't as quick as the Honda is (for now...won't be that way for long) it surely has more torque down low and makes it much nicer to drive. It handles ALOT better, and even with no exterior mods, looks sportier. It's even been getting a lot more positive attention. I wish I would have bought it long ago.

Interesting that you say that. I'm only about 6'1", and I have had some trouble finding a perfect seating position. I am either out of legroom or the wheel is too far away. I think my reach may be on the shorter side for my height, so others may not have this problem. I also find headroom tight, although I do have the moonroof, which cuts into it. If only I had a telescoping wheel ...

Having said that, it is a great car. with all the K cars I drove prior to this, I used to be jealous driving almost anyone else's car. Now driving almost anyone else's car is a nightmare, and I can't wait to get back into the Protege. I even enjoy it more than newer, supposedly superior cars, such as the 2004 Accord. It's a car that makes me truly appreciate weight as a factor in driving dynamics. It might not have a powerful engine, but with a curb weight of 2634 lbs (edmunds.com), it is "tossable" unlike any other car I have driven. Quick around town as well, especially paying attention to the timing of the lights. Just plan ahead for passing on the highway and watch out for crosswinds.
