Protege's New heart

ive seen and riden in an MX-3 with a KL-ZE and all i gotta say is that thing was a torque monster. and who ever says its over rated needs to feel 200 ft/lbs @ 2500 rpm in a 2100lbs car. i would have loved to swap this into my old 93 lx. when every you get that thing up and running lemme know i would love a ride..late

oh and with that motor alone in that light car (all KL-ze upgrades included) he'll be in the high 13's low 14's.

now add a 100 shot and hold on!!!

Couple things. First, when I said over-rated I meant that the kl-ze is over rated. I said that because JITB said he was thinking about swapping this v-6 for a kl-ze, and I was pointing out that the only difference between the two engines is an IM and a computer. I mean s***, it's only a 30 hp difference.


Secondly, an mx-3 weighs 2100 lbs? Maybe with no glass, interior, or body panels.

mx3 gs weighs 2500lbs
protege lx weighs 2400lbs
you know whats funny tho is that the Escort Wagon Weighs lighter than them both by like 40lbs tho. And the Escort GT is lighter than the protege, but the 323 is the lightest on the whole BG unibody, and secon lightest is the Wagon. 323-escort wagon-escortsedan-protege-mx3 (lightest - heaviest)

IM /ECU/Higher compression /Different Heads/Ze has solid lifters i believe instead of hydraulic like the klde. You coul make that 30hp up with mods, the kl motors respond soo well with intake exhaust. Cant wait to get it running and start abusing it..:), i think i can do 13.9999999 at least once

^ actually there are several things different from ZE to DE. the ECU, the straight neck Intake Mani, compression ratio, and transmission (LSD). i thought the DE made 160 crank hp? and the big difference would be in the torque gained from the ZE. I guess its all in the eye of the beholder but whatever. i would love to have a ZE in my car, just not cost effective.

oh and what is the weight of a MX-3? sry i pretty much guessed on that one. is it more like 2400?

i had to move the car around a little.. Got a a quick video of the 8000rpm ownage..:) My poor lx gauge doesnt know what to do...haha. But i need a passenger axle...like asap. the car shakes soo bad even at a slow roll..so i found out the axle is te culprit. Which ill get tommorrow, hopefully. And i need to tighten up one of the p/s lines, that i forgot too. and ill be almost ready for the road. The car idles reallyhigh at start up but thats normal it jumps up to 3k, than goes to 1k, mainly b/c the timing is set too high, and i havent set it right. But oh my that light flywheel does wonders..my 1.8 never revved soo quick..

prob not...This motor has atleast 120k on it....soo i still got to see how it runs. it seems to run fine so far. doesnt smoke at all. But i still have another motor at the engine shop to pick up as a back up...just in case...:) .

Radiator hooked up and barely fitting..will have to do for now. My radiator fan is huge soo it looks like im gonna have to hack up the core support to make it fit right and to be able to put the hood back on. B/c i dont want to buy another one. ive got a civic radiator but it wont fit in the space either its too fat. And plus that fan cools like no other...sootime to break out the sawzall:sad:

well one of my radiator hoses has a hole in it... but its no biggie. But i got it to idle and drive pretty normal. But this motor is weird and al foreign to me. Onecrank it idles perfect the next crank it idles like a drag car. Soo with due time ill have it running flawlessly. Still no axle tho...i hope i can make it to northpoint this week..i gurantee ill be out there next week tho.

nahh not gonna make it..i should be ready to go by Northpoint next week.
