Protege5 Rebates Incentives

For the past 3 weeks I've had my heart set on a Protege5 and it's now time to bite the bullet and buy one. After numerous test drives I've decided that it's right for me and the price is in my "range." The package/features I've put together is as follows:

- Moonroof & 6-CD package
- ABS
- Auto transmission

Due to the type of driving this vehicle will be used for and it's joint user purpose, automatic transmission was necessary.

Originally I was going with a midnight blue, even have a hefty security deposit on the exact car I could take home this Saturday. However, the Vivid Yellow is quickly gaining favor to the point of a last minute switch. So here is my question...

I was quoting from Flemington (NJ) Mazda as the current rebates/incentives for the P5 is $2250 cash back. The package I priced out came to $174xx before tax/title/license.

However I've recently discovered an identical vehicle at a local Mazda dealer in College Park, MD (go to school at CUA) that lists MSRP at $192xx and Invoice at $178xx

So what are the odds that the invoice marked price could be haggled to sub $17000 and does one think that they've already factored in the rebate/incentive into the invoice?

I want the best bang for my buck (obviously) and I feel as though I can sit in this car for $16000 - $165000 before tax/license/etc

Haggle.

Don't be in a hurry to buy something on impulse.

Who's offering the rebate? Mazda USA or the dealership?

If it's Mazda USA, then that shouldn't even factor into the price.

AJ, it's not an issue of impulse or hurry. The P5 was my first choice back in March and I've just been waiting for the right time to purchase. It's now an issue of making sure that the price is right. I'm just curious about that $2250 rebate I was quoted at in NJ... was curious if anyone knew whether it was a Mazda incentive right now or a special offer from the specific dealer.

Lisa... I've really enjoyed the city, though I doubt my car will see much of it, prefer the metro to work.

Hey Spazspike. I thought you might like to know that I think the $2250 rebate is from Mazda USA because I actually just bought a new 2003 P5 (silver, stick, and gorgeous) last Friday here in State College, PA and got the rebate. Looking at my paperwork, the price was $17,055 after destination and handling charges. I got the rebate and the $500 graduate rebate. So after all was said and done, not including trade-in or down payment, the car was at $14k and change. I had test driven many other cars in the same price range and the P5 had the highest quality and driving appeal. I felt that I was looking at a car that was just too great to pass up and so the morning after I test drove it, I went in there and drove it right out of the showroom. Mine is probably a little less expensive than the one you're looking at b/c it doesn't have any options besides the roof rack, but you can factor in the price of those option packages. I've already put 800 miles on it and I'm going to put on another 900 this weekend driving to CT! What a blast! Let me know how you make out. Best of luck to you

AJ... thanks for the link I'll be sure to crunch some numbers.

ZZA... thanks for the information, sounds like an excellent configuration you've got there. I merely decided to spruce up the car as it's like a second home and wanted the added "schtuff"

However in pricing out your package, factoring my options I'm getting robbed almost $1650 (is how i figure it). Perhaps my competitive shopping has fallen short.

Thank you all for the wisdom and comments.

It sounds like I bought about the same car as zoom-zoom adam 3 days ago. The starting price was about $17.3 in Houston, and they took off $2500 as the rebate. I was surprised because i thought the rebate was $2250. However, I did not argue.

I actually live just outside of DC in Arlington so I don't ever drive in!! Way to expensive to park .. I just take the metro in and saves wear and tear on my p5.. :)

Well I have all of the same equipment sans the auto tranny and I paid $15500. So I would imagine that you should be able to get in around $16500 with the auto.

Good luck with your P5! You'll love it.

Buff- nice ride isn't it :D

Spazspike- best of luck to ya and be sure to drop us a line to let us know what happens!

Any other P5 owner out there- anyone know of a P5 meet in PA? Just curious... :)

Good call Lisa... I'm on the opposite corner in the College Park/Brookland area. I do see a numerous amount of P5s on 95 but rarely any in the immediate area.

Tmht... sounds like I need to renegotiate. If you went with the Moon/Tunes and ABS package too then the automatic transmission was only another $900. Sadly I'm not comfortable enough with the stick (yet) to experiment and save the grand.

ZZA... will certainly update the community with photos and high praise.

Do you work in DC also?

Lisa... I work off the Blue line (McPherson Sq) but live in Brookland (red). I've actually decided to go with the P5 from DarCars in College Park. They've got a ridiculous incentive/rebate package on the exact vehicle I want right now.

Well at least the best price I've found... under 16k for the package I discussed in the first post.

I like how we always feel obligated to apologize for getting an auto. (:

_A_

Well because I am sorry for getting it, I'm selling myself short on features that manual tranmission far surpassed automatic transmission for in this vehicle. But this car is to serve a purpose that would best be suited by automatic transmission.

Not to mention if I wanted to really enjoy manual, it wouldn't be a 130hp 4-cyclinder. :p
