Protege5 Production #?

So, feeling left out with all the MSPs and MP3s and their production #s I sought out to find mine.

First I tried calling MNAO and they couldn't tell me the prod #, bummer.

So then I was looking at the TSB for cold engine rattle and noticed that it basically gave me the range of VINs for all Protege5s (assuming).

So my logic worked this way:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
-The TSB says

02 Protege5
From VIN JM1BJ24**2*440775 to JM1BJ24**2*551281, go to STEP 3
From VIN JM1BJ24**2*551282 to JM1BJ24**2*641000, go to STEP 4

03 Protege / 03 Protege5
From VIN JM1BJ2***3*100001 to JM1BJ2***3*143365, go to STEP 4

-Now, I'm assuming that for a TSB they would include all Protege5s, at least all NA Protege5s

-So then I can assume that there are 200,225 '02 P5s (641000 - 440775) and 43,364 '03 P5/Pros (143365 - 100001), which is 243,589 total.
note:Now the only thing that I'm not sure of here is how many 03 P5s there truly are, since I don't know if they started making them with this TSB fix already done after VIN 143365 and they are put in together with Proteges- maybe someone here can check to see if they are within the 03 range.

-Anyway, since my 02 P5 VIN ends in 541769 I just subtracted 440775 from that # to get 100,994!, which is what I'm guessing is my production #.

-So I can safely say that I'm a 2002 Protege5 #100,994/200,225?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Does this make any sense to anyone else? Does anyone know how many P5s were actually sent to NA?

Update: The TSBs are for North America only, so then I can assume that there were only 200,225 '02 P5s.

Would you think that the mid-year cycle change during 2002 (2002.5) and 2003 (2003.5) added any VIN numbers to the block?

Also, I dunno how "special" I'd feel with 22,327 out of 43,364 production number :D. Then again, it's better than 22,327 out of 734,334 Civics or whatever :p

The TSB is for
2001-2003 Protege (2.0L FS only)
2002-2003 Protege5

So I'm guessing that the VIN #s they have include the 2002.5s. Like I said, I'm not sure if they fixed this problem with the 2003.5s or not, and the VINs for the 03 Pro5s are mixed in with VINs for 03 Proteges, so we can't be sure about those.

Well, if you're in the top 5,000 I think you'd still be special :D

I'm happy to be close to a big round number, 100,000

1. I believe only about 60k of Proteges were made each year.
2. I wouldn't be happy to know that I was in the first 5K cause than I would get all the 'tested' parts

yeah there is no way 200,000+ p5 were made. Mazda probably doesnt even sell that many cars a year. I think the VIn may be randomized too.

That wouldn't explain why a higher range of VINs already came with a modified part required for the TSB fix.

ya'll are crazy.
Get outta here, you just don't want us to have a production # too :p

what does it matter?!
well, I'll be able to put in my sig:

protege5 2003 # 89721837487374827341

hey msp and mp3 owners...i'm just kidding... :p

man...those guys and girls are going to run over me with their cars...

If this is true, then I have production number 176.491
Yeah, I have a believer!!! Ok, I'll take your name off the quote. But the quote's staying, it's money :D

mine is.....

39,013 ... but I ordered mine 2 months before they were really availible! When they only had demos. Hmmm

Not sure about all of this but it would be cool to be able to say you have a lower number. Also, why does everyone bash on Honda's? Oh wait it's cause they drive by you when your car is broken down on the side of the road. Sorry but I am starting to get upset about all the negatives towards a very good car. Anyway, there has to be a way to tell what number your car is thats easier than this. There must be a way to know how many we produced.
