Protege5, MP3 ecu swap

i have a p5 with the 10.7:1 comp pistons, the japanese cams, racing mazda header, custom exhaust, warm air intake, and a short throw shifter and a whole bunch of other stuff thats irrelavent. i was wondering since i can get the mp3 ecu for relatively cheap would it be ok to use the mp3 ecu in my protege5 with the mods that i have or should i just go for the Japanese spec ecu and i know its hard to get the Japanese ecu

Here in NC.....two of our NC members met at our last car meeting, and swapped.....although I since haven't heard the overall results..apparently, things must be going well. Search I think this forum or the Car meet forum for ECU/MP3/P5 swap for more info..Peace!

usually i would think you would like to keep the p5 ecu for timing reasons but your going N/A so maybe an advantage for you to try it.

I swapped mine out with a p5 we are both running great and he even passed the odb-II test to get his car inspected

high compression and more timing do not mix well
I would make sure that the engine is getting alittle more fuel

you most likely will not have any problems

i guess that would be me :)
i hve the MP3 in my MP5 works great. hopefully i can get a day to put the cams in then it'll have a little more poop.
i had to take the car to the smog nazi last year and it blew clean, no worries!

MacProtege5, how much did the piston and install costed you?

BTW, just want to point out the J-spec ECU is OBD-I vs. our OBD-II...

I've got high compression pistons, same as you 10.7:1 in my mp3 and it runs fine. No CEL's.
Cheers,
Moose

The J-spec ecu is pretty much out of the question. You'd hve to hack the main wiring harness all to hell, among other things. Plus the money it would cost just to get it.. IMO not worth it for just 163-165hp...

warm air intake??

the intall for the pistons cost me nothing labor wise because i did it myself. the pistons themselves about about 150 or so, but you will need new pistons rings and all kinds of gaskets to

hello how are U? I swapped my engine I bought it from JDM engine, the car does not start, it looks almost the same, IT HAS A BLACK BOX ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, THERE IS NO SPARK OR FUEL, I CHECKED FUSES, RELAY AND WIRES, IT TURNS OVER BUT NO STAR, LIKE I SAID NO SPARK OR FUEL, BOTH ENGINES SAY FS-9 ON THE SIDE, THE ORIGINAL HAS SOME NUMBERS BY THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD (14.2) AND THE NEW ONE (21.1). HELP PLZ....

Should be that the jdm engine is OBD-1 and the computer you are using is OBD-2, it would never start like that... I also think the japanese engine damper is different, the timing teeth are differently placed.
