Protege5: Harder, not Smarter!

Haha, truth be told I've been "waiting" to be pulled over for this since the day I did it. I researched the law very carefully before I did it, and I anticipated this would happen. I was also confident I would be able to explain to the officer that what I have done is not only legal, but safer, and smarter than outdated standard side mirrors.

I must have had....hundreds? of people tell me that it is illegal to not have a side mirror. I got tired of explaining it to them after about the 20th time and just smile and nod, so in reality, I have had lots of practice in pushing my case.

I just read all 29 pages straight, just about killed my phone battery. Love what you have done and look forward to future updates.

Ok, so its been over a week. I had some minor rubbing in the rears that I "mostly" fixed with a heat gun, an old c++ textbook and a jackstand.

Then as the car settled, its rubbing even more now. Anyone in the Seattle/Bellingham area with a fender roller? or know a place I can rent one for cheap?

Saw a few people doing it for you around here at shops/ craigs....for insane prices and with no guarantee they wont crack your paint, so why not do it myself.

Not that it will matter much anyways, I've always figured on eventually cutting the fenders out and building fiberglass pieces.

PM me if anyone reading this has one!!! I would really appreciate it!

***Holding off on more fiberglass stuff for now, I'm going to build a vacuum pump and/or resin infusion setup for my next parts.***

That's dumb. I have 4 different friends who own a fender roller and will do it for $25 a fender...and that's just the most consistent price. I have people who would do it cheaper

I've seen online you can rent em for like 65$, you get it for a week before you ship it back. It all else fails I'll do this I guess.

My laser cut cnc parts came today!!!

I'll start building it, see what parts I'm still missing and post some pictures tonight!

am not sure is i missed through the 29 pages, but i was interested in knowing the final number on MPG after all these mod

That moment when you hurl your 3 foot piece of aluminum through the window when your tapping bit snaps...

Alrighty, just going to take the car out once more on the 10th to the local sonic import meet then I'm parking it for the winter for the engine rebuild / front end fiberglass.

Any of you local Bellingham guys wanna come out its pretty cool to see all the cars. I'm the only Mazda out there usually it would be fun if you stopped by.

Ferndale Sonic Drive in November 10th, 9-12 at night. There will be at least 50 cars. (and chili dogs!)

ghetto-cheap fender rolling method is use the heat gun and an aluminum (preferred) or a wooden bat (eats up the bat - but easier on the car, eh?) which you roll back and forth 'lifting' the car by leveraging against the tire. Go slow with many passes... ;)

Mmm yea, I'd rather not. I like my car <3

I've seen some horror videos on youtube of fail bat rolls. Dear god lol

may be ghetto-fabulous, but the cars I've dropped have gotten the bat-rolled-fender treatment.

Heat the inner and outer portion of the fender to where it's good and hot (so the paint flex's and the metal is a little more malleable), slowly working the bat from near 45* angle to damn near straight-up (the handle of the bat touching the bottom of the wheel). I've yet to have a fender pop on me, or a dent/crease accumulate due to the ghetto roll.

It works....just gotta work it.

Pre-Ordered the new gopro3 black edition. Then I can post videos! yay!
A nice guy who attended SEMA gave me his 100$ off coupon, I was just going to buy the normal one, but thats such a good deal on a fantastic camera, and I've been dieing to use the camera for areo testing and taking to the track.
