Is this mazdaspeed muffler?
I got this picture from mazdausa.com
Mazdaspeed label is not shown on the tip, and the title says it's Sport exhaust. Are they different?
and.. what is Racing Beat exhaust?

Does it also say mazdaspeed on the tip?
It's cool with some letters on the tip, otherwise it looks like no-name muffler.
If anybody experienced that muffler, do you feel any power increased??

I've heard from dealer today that mazdaspeed muffler increases 5hp. is that real? I don't believe dealers. All they say is BS.
Anyways does MS muffler make same sound as other aftermarket mufflers? OR do they sound just like stock(a bit louder?)?
If it doesn't increase any hp and sound like stock, I'm not gonna change my universal muffler to the MS muffler.

just replacing the muffler is not gonna give you hp gains. maybe 1/2 hp since the muffler will flow better than the stock one. if you want to see gains, you'll need to replace the stock piping with larger stuff, usually around 2.25"-2.5" for NA, 2.5" and greater for turbo. i've heard the muffler on a p5 (i think it's stock) and it's not very loud at all. slightly louder than stock with a mellow tone.

I wanna hear the sound before I install it.
So what's the point for installing Mazdaspeed muffler?
For slightly louder sound?

Jayka... essentially, yes. Perhaps a more customized look as well. Now if you did an intake, header, and full cat-back system then you'll start to see performance gains. But you're also looking at about $1,000 in the process.

Mazda claims 3-4 whp, and dynos from users on this board have pretty much proven that. The stock P5 piping is already 2.25", so it's a pretty good system already for NA cars. Obviously adding intake and headers will yield even more gains, but the Mazdaspeed exhaust gives mild hp and throttle response upgrades, sounds great, and is very well built.

just got mine yesterday....gotta wait untill I get home from VA to install it though. I've heard with it and an injen you're looking at maybe 5-8hp??? I'm just happy about the way it looks.... not too big, and def. noticeable! Prob the best $100 I've ever spent on a mod. Thanks again Laser5!!!

to clarify, it's a hand-me-down from Laser5 (see above). Sorry for this extra stupid post...I'm soo close to 100 posts. This will be 97 in fact!

I have that Sport exhaust on my 5.. it does say MazdaSpeed close to the tip and I think it gives the car a more "throaty" sound..

Sport exhaust- Axle back
Racing beat for P5- is 3 pieces cat back system
both have great sounds, but you will gain little more hp from cat back system.

now i'm all confuzed-----if the stock piping is 2.25, and the RB is 2.37 (?), is the .12" in diameter really going to help that much? had my heart set on the RB, but now i'm wondering if i should get the 'Speed axle-back and put the money i'd save toward springs.......sorry to thread-jack.

I have the Racing Beat exhaust. Although I am not sure of the exact gains from teh Cat-tack exhaust, I do notice it in the gas pedal. My P5 pulls better on the top end of the power-band. Also the Racing Beat exhaust has a good rumble to it (not too long and not too quiet).

ZMTHIS

the stock piping is 2", not 2.25". the inner diameter of the stock pipe is slightly less than 2". the racing beat cat back's inner diameter is slightly larger than 2.25"

that's what i thought, tonk. thanks for clearing my mind! lol but if we need backpressure for torque.......
not to mention the fact that the parts guy insinuated any other exhaust would void my warranty, and it's about half the price of the racing beat............so basically how much of an overall difference, if any, will i realize with the rb? (cheers)

then again, 2" is entirely too restrictive.....

oh, screw the warranty! like the springs and cai won't kill it anyway. the springs will just have to wait 'til march, that's all. (cheers)

the parts guy can bite my ass! how is he going to tell me that adding an exhaust will void anything? that's like saying changing your valve stem caps to chrome will void your warranty. tell him to go suck on my big toe. changing the exhaust does nothing but void your stock pipe's warranty.

you're not going to void any warranty by changing your exhaust. go for it.
