Protege5 down again...

damn..stupid saturns...Im ecstatic your ok...The pics brought a tear to my eye...damn

I just did quick estimate on parts. $2,500 covers most of the main stuff. I'm sure there will be at least a few hundred dollars added to that in hardware and smaller pieces that were destroyed. We'll have to wait and see what the body shop comes up with on labor, but I have a feeling it will be totalled.

wow...im surprised it cost that little with soo much damage...just to get my hood repaired, headlight replaced, and windshield replaced came out to be $1200

I haven't taken a good inventory of parts yet and there are a bunch of little things I know are busted that I didn't add to the list. The labor is going to be pretty substantial considering that they would have to cut out the damaged quarter panel and weld a new piece in, then repaint that whole side of the car. I already had to do that on the other side for an accident a few years ago. I wish I could remember how much the labor was.

Car is totaled and will be back in my possession by the end of today. I'll have a parting out thread up in a few days. I'll post a link here. Please don't send me PM's asking about stuff since it will be a few days before I can get pictures up and take a good look at the parts anyway. Just get your money ready and wait for the FS link.

damn man, that really sucks. I hope you can get at least a little back from the part-out.

:( sorry to hear about your p5 being totalled...any idea what you're going to move on to next?

I'm currently set on getting an E36 M3. That depends on how much the bank is willing to work with me, but it seems reasonable. I'll still be around here as I have a '94 Protege that I'll be building for autox next season.

How does that work?

Do they pay you what they think it was worth and then give you the wreck for free, or did you have to pay them for it?

What's the market price for a car that the insurance folks say isn't worth fixing???

The car in working condition was worth around $6,000. They charged me $900 to buy the car back from them so they are writing me a check for $5,100 and I get to keep the car. I have to fill out some paperwork to get the VIN cleared through DMV and such. Other than that it was pretty simple.

good luck with the m3 thatd be hella cool!

Time for a RWD conversion?

It's for the best that they totalled it even though you had a lot of time and money tied up in it.

Keep us posted on the part out please.

$6000? How many miles did it have? I'm still seeing them regularly on the market for $10,000+. I think you got screwed, dude.

Also, any word on what happened that sent the other drive onto your side of the road?

As it set the car was pretty hacked up and stripped. Hence the lower price. I haven't followed up on the other driver. I've been busy trying to find a new ride.

Sad to see another one go so tragically.
My new Laser Blue P5 isnt in quite as good shape as my Sunlight Silver was but it is a manual, win some, loose some.
Good luck with your search.

Sorry to hear about your MP5 but glad to see that you're OK.

When you're ready to part out some parts I would like to take dibs on the power lock switch on the driver side door. I don't know if you saw one of my other threads but I may also need a new driver side power lock motor (servo).
