Protege03ak46's Build Thread

Update time.

Diffuser, wheels, tires, 5-lug swap and parts are already to go. Swap starts tomorrow, Ends sometime next week. Full pics, Saturday or Sunday night. Ill be taking pics as I go.

So, got my tires mounted today. 205/40 General Altimax HP on a 9 inch wheel. Decent amount of stretch, had to use the Cheetah to get the seated but it worked out well. A lot less aggressive than I thought it was going to be, which is good. I thought I was going to need it, but I'm starting to think the rear isnt going to need crazy camber. I'm guessing ~2 degrees. My original plan was to powder coat them. Took almost 2 weeks on the media blaster to get them clean and down to bare metal. I was worried about powder coating them because there made of a non ferrous alloy. I called up the company that makes our machine and asked about it. They say all you have to do is stick it in the oven at 450 for a good 4 hours, take it out and lay down the powder and it sticks just fine. Went over to the oven and turned it on. The thing blew up, I lol'd. So I said **** it and now I'm painting them. Any ways heres some pics of the wheels before the paint.

Now for the diffuser. First things I noticed was the fact that Its huge and light. It goes a lot farther back then I thought it would. I mocked it up using my jack, stood back and my jaw dropped. Im in love. Theirs one fitment issue the diffuser is about an inch to small on either side of the bumper. Not a big deal. Mike gave me the included vortex generators which he never used, so that should do the trick. Anyways, on to pics.

Siiick ak46, I like the mb weapon spoke design. Should look dope on you're ride.
Did you make the diffusor yourself or did you have it custom made.. ? Looks cool so far.

What color are you going to paint the wheels? I'm painting my 06' special edition miata wheels galaxy grey, an oem honda color.

Thanks bro. The wheels are getting a coat of white. Ever since you had the white wheels, Iv been in love with white on black mica :D. Diffuser is a RX-7 RE Amemiya replica made by Chaser Aero. Shine Auto also makes a replica.

Oh nice haha, ya my white gram lights were fun but sold them to twisfm and now there bright green as i'm sure you've noticed.
Amemiya replica!! Damn thats awesome bro, glad to see a protege enthusiast push the limits.

Well, 5-lug is complete. The rotors need to be turned and new pads are in order, other than that its solid. Went out for a test drive, stopped at a stop sign and went. The person across from me decided not to stop and blow through the sign. Ill let you guess what happens next...

Im pretty lucky actually. The clutch was depressed and I was almost stopped. Hit at about 5 mph, the bumper is all scratched up. Might be able to just buff it out, I wont know till tomorrow.

Fitment is on point IMO.
